Reliving colonial charm

Guru, Nianne-Lynn Hendricks, Published on 07/08/2020

» I have always wanted to stay at The Cabochon Hotel on Sukhumvit 45, especially since it is also home to one of my favourite hide away bars in Bangkok. Bringing Old World charm to the modern age, the hotel reminds me of my family's summer home, which was built during colonial times.

» It is not often that I would consider dining at hotel restaurants, merely because most cater to tourists. Hua Chang Heritage Hotel is a boutique hotel near BTS Siam, BTS Ratchathewi and BTS National Stadium, and its restaurant Miss Siam has recently been relaunched as Miss Siam Legend.

The Latin explosion

Guru, Published on 04/10/2019

» Many Latin-themed bars have popped up across Bangkok in the last few years, but Flamenco sets itself apart with an eclectic design that looks like an upper-class Spanish house. The walls are splashed with maroon-red and luminous gold colours, while carpets and velvet furniture adorn the floor. The space, while feels intimate, is quite extensive with divided zones of a cigar room, a live-stage next to the dance floor, a moderate-sized outdoor seating area and a lounge that comes with large steel structures, built purposely to fit more than 100 bottle of spirits. There's also a greater focus on music with live-performances by different bands nightly. Check their monthly calendar to see if it's either swing, jazz or blues that'll take the stage the night you're planning to hit the club.

Published on 24/07/2019

» What do Sao Paolo, Lisbon and Bangkok have in common besides sunshine? One word: "SEEN", brainchild of never-in-the-red Portuguese "chefpreneur" and social scene doyen Olivier da Costa. In Bangkok's case a collaboration with Avani Hotels & Resorts located atop the new-gen paradigm, Avani+ Riverside Bangkok Hotel.

The sensation of all senses

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 07/09/2018

» 'Do you like The Beatles?" is one of the first questions Maribel asks me during our consultation before the treatment starts. "Well, even if you don't, you don't have a choice. You'll just have to listen to it anyway," she quips.

LIFE

Warm, welcoming, rustic

Guru, Nianne-Lynn Hendricks, Published on 24/08/2018

» Mallard, a newish Mediterranean eatery is nestled half-way in the popular food soi that is Sukhumvit 49, attached to the Adelphi Forty-Nine Hotel. Named after the dabbling duck known for its adaptability, the restaurant's philosophy is "what we cook is who we are", with a focus on wild and exotic meats. The interior looks like a country farmhouse, with a patio and terrace seating, complete with potted plants, outdoor fans (to keep the hot summer days cool), animal trophies, antler chandeliers and wood and leather furniture. Warm lighting completes the look, which includes a bar in the centre of the restaurant. A very macho restaurant.
