» The disturbing lack of suitable accessories in Thailand has marred an otherwise great start to my experience with the MacBook Pro. Apart from Apple's own adaptors, there is almost nothing here for users who need USB-C connectivity.

» Last week Apple rescheduled its quarterly earnings call from Oct 27 to Oct 25: a Tuesday, apparently due to a scheduling conflict. Several commentators are hoping that there could be a new product announcement just before the weekend. Between the two dates is an event in New York when Microsoft will make announcements: "To see what's next for Windows 10." Some speculate there will be other interesting revelations.

» Last week in San Francisco Apple announced new versions of the Apple Watch along with the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. The event focused only on these devices leaving Mac owners fretting. A comment from Tim Cook suggests there will be updated Macs coming soon.

» As Apple has grown in the last few years there have been changes: good and bad. Locally, for example, the number of stores has increased in Bangkok and several cities in the provinces have retail outlets selling Apple products.

» At a recent camp for students I ran at Mahidol University's Faculty of Engineering, a whole day was set aside for photography. After being taught some theory, the students walked round the Salaya campus taking pictures. After lunch, they were to import the images to MacBook Air computers and create slide shows using iPhoto.

» Some weeks ago, Microsoft released Office for the iPad. Many users had already made alternative arrangements in the three years since the device appeared. Nonetheless, it was a significant release and although Office apps are free, users need an Office 365 subscription.
