Upcoming events and the best images on iPhones

» In a couple of weeks, Apple will announce its third-quarter results for 2016. The conference call is scheduled for July 26, at 2pm Pacific Time, which is around 5am here. This is expected to be a poorer quarter, but so was the last one, and Apple still had a US$10 billion profit.

Income was within Apple's guidance, but that did not stop Wall Street from deciding that Apple was doomed, despite the largest quarterly profits from any company ever. If Apple were a country, its GDP would give it a ranking of 42 (Thailand is 29).

» With Apple's World Wide Developers Conference (WWDC) only a couple of weeks away (June 8-12), the rumours have already begun. The top rumour was that Apple would produce a new rose gold colour for the next iPhone. Another rumour reported was how Homekit — Apple's unifying approach to the Internet of Things — is having problems and will be delayed until September.

» Later this week, local users will be able to start ordering iPhone 6 models, although it is rumoured that initially those in some iStudio outlets will only have True Sim cards. I will wait until I can physically hold the two models before making a decision and then order from the online Apple Store. My iPhone 5s is fine for now.

» This is a busy week for people following Apple. If you are reading this column on Wednesday, Jan 27, early yesterday Thai time Apple's First Quarter financial results were announced. This was expected to be another good quarter, following high sales over the New Year period: some reports showed a 31 percent increase over the previous year.
