High energy in a small space

Life, Kanin Srimaneekulroj, Published on 31/01/2018

» As technology continues to render computer components smaller and smaller, the need to compromise between portability and power is rendered increasingly moot. The 2017 model of the HP Spectre x360 is a paragon of this idea, seamlessly incorporating 4K-capable processing power with a body barely over a kilo in weight. While the review unit I received had some issues maintaining battery life after a while -- no doubt due to the 4K screen -- the overall experience, including the touchpad, keyboard and even the touchscreen-controlled tablet mode are better than any convertible of this size I've ever experienced. It's certainly the most powerful, too.

For those perfect Netflix and chill moments

» Sporting a rather hefty combination of an Intel-Core i7 processor and 8GB of RAM (upgradeable to 16GB), the Lenovo Yoga 910 is no doubt one of the more powerful ultra-thin hybrid laptops currently on the market. It also sports a pretty decent battery, offering almost 10 hours of use per full-charge, something that greatly enhances its purpose as a portable (1.3kg) working laptop.

Envy-ous? Not really

Life, Kanin Srimaneekulroj, Published on 11/05/2016

» For a machine with a 6th Generation Intel dual-core i7 processor and 8GB RAM running on Windows 10, the HP Envy Notebook never quite managed to leave much of an impression on me. Despite its impressive specs, comfortable keyboard and sleek design, I still found using the notebook to be merely satisfactory at best, with enough performance glitches to hold it back from being an immediate recommendation. Those of you looking for a light, serviceable laptop computer for working on the go could find a lot to like in the machine, provided you can stomach the relatively hefty price.

Singapore dreams of literary revolution

Life, Kanin Srimaneekulroj, Published on 30/11/2015

» This year marks Singapore's 50th year of independence. It is a momentous occasion for the country, a milestone that equally inspires a nostalgic look at its past as it does its aspirations for the future. In keeping with the celebratory spirit of the occasion, the annual Singapore Writers Festival, which took place earlier this month under the theme "Island of Dreams", celebrates in equal measure the country's 50th birthday -- and its hopes for the future -- as well as the vibrant literary scene in Southeast Asia.

Sleek solid sounds

Life, Kanin Srimaneekulroj, Published on 25/11/2015

» When it comes to high-end headphones, Sennheiser stands right up there with Marshall or Bose in terms of sound quality. The Urbanite XL Wireless, an upgraded version of the same class of headphones released last year, brings with it the sound quality you'd expect from a Sennheiser product; providing a solid bass, while maintaining a wide range of sounds across various genres of music. Additionally, perhaps to compete with more trendy competitors like Beats By Dre, the Urbanite XL is also given a sleek, subtle design that should appeal to more fashion-conscious music lovers as well.
