» It seems clear to me that a very significant proportion of the population feels alienated from the status quo and no doubt will go on feeling alienated because it sounds to me from reading stories that the government's only reaction to Sunday's rally will most likely be punitive in one way or another.

» In response to the justice minister's reckless reaction to the call for harsher punishments for rape -- a popular and understandable knee-jerk reaction, given what Thais have been under for so many years -- the Post covers the relevant points well in "A barbaric misstep" (Editorial, Jan 1). If rape could be easily eradicated by implementing draconian legal measures or violent punishments, it would have been solved long ago.
