A social disease

Life, Pichaya Svasti, Published on 24/09/2018

» One of my favourite actors recently left this world prematurely due to frail health caused by chronic excessive drinking. It is sad, because Warut Woratham, once the country's No.1 heartthrob, had managed to quit drinking and opted for a healthy lifestyle a few years prior to his death, but the alcohol-related damage to his health had been done. Warut was just 49 when he died.

Legacy of early man

Life, Pichaya Svasti, Published on 30/06/2016

» Visiting museums in Thailand is no longer dull since several museums have been renovated and well-presented. Since its big improvement late last year, the 128-year-old National Museum Bangkok regularly comes up with rotating exhibitions. The latest is the ongoing "Early Man Of Our Land" exhibition, which will be held until Aug 21 at Issaravinitchai Throne Hall.

Stressed? You're having a laugh

Life, Pichaya Svasti, Published on 25/08/2015

» A few months ago, I read a funny post on Facebook about laughing on social media in different languages. Thais prefer "55555" while the Japanese type "www", which is derived from the word "warai". Korean people write "kkkkk", the Spanish "jajaja" and the Portuguese "huehuehue" or "rsrsrsrs". For people in Denmark and Iceland, they use "ha ha, hi hi, hae hae, ho ho, ti hi" while Russians use "haha xaxa, hihi xnxn, hehe xexe" and it is "xa xa xa" in Hebrew. Interestingly, French people laugh "hahaha, héhéhé, hihihi, hohoho" or "MDR" (mort de rire) meaning "dying of laughter".

Saving man's best friend from the butchers

» Hundreds of dogs crammed into tiny cages on trucks or boats travelling across the border and the Mekong River have been a common sight over the past few years. They were on their way to dog meat markets and restaurants in Vietnam via Laos.
