» I received an email from a reader who was disappointed that in the item about bikinis in "PostScript" two weeks ago, there was no mention of that cerebral song, Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polkadot Bikini. It was, admittedly, a regrettable oversight on my behalf. Being a spotty 13 year old at the time of its release in 1960, the Bryan Hyland hit certainly caught my attention, although my mother was less impressed.

» Considering how depressing the world news has been lately, watching snippets of the diamond jubilee celebrations of Queen Elizabeth II earlier this week was a refreshing break. It was simply good to see lots of Brits looking happy and not whining about things as is usually the case.

» The sad passing of Donna Summer and Robin Gibb in the past two weeks inevitably stirred memories of those distant days of disco, scarily more than three decades ago. Composer Quincy Jones called Summer "the heartbeat and soundtrack of a decade", and she was apparently a very nice lady along with it.
