Scraping the barrel

Life, Graham K. Rogers, Published on 17/06/2015

» Last week Apple held its Developer Conference (WWDC) for 2015, at the Moscone Center in San Francisco. I watched the event live via the feed on Apple TV taking notes and again the next day (but more slowly) when I added some important points I had missed. Many commentators were disappointed because there was no hardware: no iPhones or new Apple TV that had been rumoured.

Backup or else

Life, Graham K. Rogers, Published on 18/03/2015

» I am minimising comments on the Apple Watch this week. There are plenty of articles already out there: choose wisely. The Watch will be on sale in some countries from April 24. Prices range from $349 (11,460 baht) to $17,000. The one that I am interested in would cost me $699: about 25,000 baht if it arrives in Thailand.

Basic control of a Mac for new users

Life, Graham K. Rogers, Published on 10/09/2014

» By the time you read this, Apple will have announced a range of new products at the Flint Center in Cupertino. There is bound to be much information (and misinformation) about the new devices and any related software, so I plan to view the presentation online and will make comments in the coming days after I examine the information carefully.

Fallout from Apple's WWDC

Life, Graham K. Rogers, Published on 11/06/2014

iOS devices as photo graphers’ assistants

Life, Graham K. Rogers, Published on 07/05/2014

» I have a fairly high regard for the iPhone as a photographic device, in part because that is what many people use. From the iPhone or the iPad, output can be uploaded directly to Facebook, Instagram, Twitter or other sites, and that is all that most need. The best camera is the one you have with you.

Big Macs and size

Life, Graham K. Rogers, Published on 19/03/2014

» First, a correction. When discussing my stolen Mac two weeks ago, I called it a PowerMac. It was in fact a 12-inch G4 Powerbook. I had big Macs on the brain as I had been looking at Apple’s latest Mac Pro which has just arrived in Bangkok.

Opening gambit

Life, Graham K. Rogers, Published on 05/02/2014

» Since I first started using Macs, the Apple world I work in has changed somewhat, even in Thailand where there are far more stores than before: iBeat, iStore and uStore, as well as other outlets such as in Power Mall and many of the main department stores.

When your Mac won't recognise your iPhone

Database, Graham K. Rogers, Published on 12/05/2010

» I have been running my new 2.66Ghz MacBook Pro for the past couple of weeks. I will report next time on day-to-day use and its performance. While I took great care to transfer the data and install applications, mostly by downloading from new, it was not all plain sailing. The software I use for the weekly podcast let me down and I am still looking at that. As a short-term remedy, I wrote parts of the feed myself.

I have seen the future, but you won't believe me

» I often think I might have written this column under the name Cassandra, the daughter of the King of Troy. She saw the future, but no-one believed
