An egalitarian exhibition

» Placed methodically across the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre's (BACC) 8th floor gallery are 200 little figurines of a boy pointing towards the sky. Each decorated, painted and reimagined in different ways by international and Thai artists tells a story of their own. There's one wearing a camo military uniform donning multiple watches, one lying on the floor in a pool of blood, and one on a wooden pedestal -- dressed in a traditional Thai headdress with tiny little zebras lined up on the floor next to it.

» Early last week, the world watched with bated breath to see if Rahaf Mohammed al-Qunun would be sent back to what she feared would be her inevitable death in Saudi Arabia. The 18-year-old had renounced Islam (a crime punishable by death) and run away from her family, accusing them of physical and psychological abuse.

The message was paired with a painting of a smiling woman forming a heart with her two hands. In between her hands are the words "F*CK OFF". It received more than 8,300 Likes, Loves and Hahas -- something that only he can pull off.

» 1 Bangkok has been bombarded with an amazing line-up of concerts this year, and for any rockers out there, American industrial metal band Nine Inch Nails (NIN) will be bringing their explosive set to Bangkok on Aug 14 at Lat Phrao's Moonstar Studio. Known for their dark, intense and ferocious music like The Hand That Feeds, Only and Survivalism, the band has won two Grammy's for Best Metal Performance and have sold over 30 million records worldwide. Their live concerts are hailed as a "musical, visual, emotional sensory onslaught" -- and with sold out stadiums in Paris, London, Amsterdam and Las Vegas, fans in Bangkok shouldn't hesitate to buy tickets. » 1. Good news for those who have yet to visit King Bhumibhol's crematorium at Sanam Luang. His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Bodindradebayavarangkun has granted an extension of visitation until Dec 31, with hopes that those who live in the provinces will have an opportunity to witness the finest Thai craftsmanship on display. Besides the royal crematorium, there is also a comprehensive exhibition, which chronicles the life of King Rama IX, with topics ranging from his childhood to achievements in science, Buddhism and international relations. In smaller open-air pavilions, the art of creating the crematorium is displayed, with videos displaying the artists at work.

» Hung on the 4th and 5th floors of the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre are familiar photographs of Buddhist statues, stunning ancient pagodas, and people and monks absorbed in prayer. The photos, taken by veteran Italian photographer Andrea Pistolesi are highly dramatic -- sometimes overly so, with high dynamic range effects, high contrast, and interesting textures superimposed on top.
