This is rumoured to be arriving in the second week of September in the US and other favoured markets, with pre-orders opening on Sept 9.

» With the soon-to-be-released iOS 10, Apple will include a HomeKit app. This will allow a single app to control devices in the home. There are a few devices on the market, with more on the way. These all have their own apps to allow control. I have been trying one such device that demonstrates much potential in this area.

While my mother likes devices such as electric can openers, tooth brushes and carving knives, being online is unimportant. » Saturday was livened up by an attempted coup in Turkey. While there are restrictions in place for social media use there, President Erdogan was still able to show viewers he was alive by calling in to a TV station using FaceTime on an iPhone. I am not sure quite what to think of that.

» In a couple of weeks, Apple will announce its third-quarter results for 2016. The conference call is scheduled for July 26, at 2pm Pacific Time, which is around 5am here. This is expected to be a poorer quarter, but so was the last one, and Apple still had a US$10 billion profit.

Art and iPhone photographs: Prisma and other available apps
