Building dreams and beating drums

» Big games from well-known developers are great but there are other games that may sometimes be obscured by the looming shadows these games cast. Titles from indie developers or smaller yet fun games may pass the radar of most gamers, which is why we're putting the spotlight on these two titles this month: Dreams Universe from Media Molecule who's also responsible for the "LittleBigPlanet" series and Patapon 2 Remastered, a title originally made for the PlayStation Portable, which is now available for the PS4.

Serenity in the force

» Let's all be real for a moment: we all secretly want to be a Jedi or Sith with awesome Force powers and a really cool lightsaber. No? Just me? Despite your denial, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is a game that lets us live out that fantasy. Despite not being the first of its kind (we're not about to forget Force Unleashed), it may just be that Fallen Order will be the game that ushers in a whole new single-player Star Wars experience.

The odd one out

» As the holiday season draws near and your family probably begins to make plans for a family get-together, you may be reminded of that quirky relative you have that you'll probably meet. You know, that uncle or aunt who's bordering on cool and weird, the one who's vegan and who's your go-to person when asking about how to live a more sustainable lifestyle but who also uses those weird products like those from Gwyneth Paltrow's company. This is probably the best way to describe the Samsung Galaxy Fold.

» Hideo Kojima's long-awaited game, which has been shrouded in much secrecy, has been out for a good number of weeks now. Back when content was just being teased and trailers were being released, no one had any idea what was going on. Now that the game is out, we finally understand... sort of. A bit. Kinda.

Burnin' up

» In recent years, the Need For Speed franchise has tried to evolve but sadly, change isn't necessarily a comfortable thing for most people. It's the usual challenge of wanting to embrace the new yet keep the familiar things that made it so memorable. Thankfully, Need For Speed: Heat hits the sweet spot of new and classic, reinvigorating the franchise and at the same time bringing gamers familiar with the title back to the good ol' days of NFS.

Brutality at its finest

» Call Of Duty hasn't been MIA. Its latest title, Black Ops IIII (yes, that's how it's stylised so don't give me grief) just came out last year, but the general consensus is that the game has lost its gritty realism and traded it for near sci-fi elements. Well, the developers have heard everyone's cries because with Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare, the game goes back to its roots.

Ghosting around

Guru, Eric E Surbano, Published on 25/10/2019

» Infiltrating enemy lines and leaving without a trace is the signature of Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon (or at least that's how it's supposed to be depending on how you play it). Its latest installment, Breakpoint, transports you from its predecessor's drug cartel-run Wildlands to the lush jungles, sandy beaches and urban landscapes of the island of Auroa. Sounds like paradise? Sure -- until bullets start flying.

Beauty but a beast

Guru, Eric E Surbano, Published on 30/08/2019

» Smartphones are now the bane of our existence. We can't go anywhere or do anything without it, and most of us probably start wheezing and choking the minute our phones run out of juice or we realise we forgot it at home -- or worse yet, forgot it somewhere we don't remember. Our need for smartphones is evident in the fact that there is a plethora of smartphones to choose from and the endless stream of new models coming out. And into this stream comes Samsung's Galaxy Note 10+, their latest top-tier model which boasts high specs, high performance and a sleek, elegant design that's a total eye-candy. But new releases are nothing new, and with the lack of innovation smartphones are being plagued with nowadays, is the Galaxy Note 10+ any different?

Guru, Eric E Surbano, Published on 28/06/2019

» E3 2019 has come and gone and that means a whole lot of reveals to relive, exciting moments to rewatch and new titles to look forward to. Or does it? I'll reserve judgment on E3 this year as a whole towards the end but here are some highlights and lowlights from 2019's E3 conference.
