Inspiring youth to get creative

Life, Suwitcha Chaiyong, Published on 18/08/2021

» Even though Thailand has a good reputation for arts and crafts, its basketry industry has an image of unstylish designs. To encourage the young generation to become interested in arts and crafts, the Sustainable Arts and Crafts Institute of Thailand (Sacit) and JSL Global Media teamed up to launch a reality competition show titled Sacict War Craft on Amarin TV starting Aug 7. In the show, five teams of young designers compete to create weaving product designs. Vachara Vaewuthinand, who is on the board of directors and a production consultant at JSL Global Media, said creating Sacict War Craft was a challenge.

Bonds that can't be broken

Life, Amitha Amranand, Published on 29/07/2021

» Some digital theatre productions that I've seen since the pandemic began have tried to make up for the loss of intimacy and sensory experience that live audience participation allows and the sense of connection to the performance and each other. A sight for sore eyes

Guru, Eric E Surbano, Published on 02/07/2021

» Art has been and still is a vital part of our life and history though it has evolved over the years. The Renaissance gave us legendary works of art like Da Vinci's Mona Lisa and Michelangelo's David. Fast forward to the present and we still view art regularly albeit in different forms -- now on a 55in. OLed TV. Hey, Netflix movies and shows are still work of art, don't judge. I understand that there is a vast difference between sitting on your couch and going to a gallery or an exhibition. Guru provides you, dear readers with refreshing breaks like a list of new galleries that are worth your time.

Apichatpong's memory of the world

Life, Kong Rithdee, Published on 30/06/2021

» It begins with a bang. Maybe the Big Bang, a culmination of cosmic murmur and subterranean hum that explodes like a burst of revelation, a sonic release of the weight of all human pain. In Apichatpong Weerasethakul's new film Memoria, a woman wakes up one morning in Bogota jolted by a mysterious sound -- a metallic, visceral, bottom-of-the-well bang. The woman, orchid farm owner Jessica (played by Tilda Swinton), wanders the Colombian capital in a daze, haunted by the unshakable aural echo, then leaves the city and heads to the mountains, where the phantom of the bang shadows her.
