BeatsX: Not the phones I am looking for

Life, Graham K. Rogers, Published on 08/03/2017

» When Apple announced the AirPods, the W1 chip was also for Beats devices, including the BeatsX earphones. Like Apple AirPods these were delayed several weeks. When the BeatsX were finally available I ordered a pair in blue (5,900 baht), from the Apple Store online. They arrived last week and are also in iStudio stores, although availability is limited.

Advances in retail experiences for Bangkok's Mac users

Life, Graham K. Rogers, Published on 25/01/2017

» Research company Gartner claims that 20% of organisations will use smartphones in place of physical access cards by 2020. A few days before reading that, I had been in the new head office of COM7, where staff are signed in and out using iBeacon and a smartphone app. This also controls access to specific areas. I was attending an Open Day at the building in Sanphawut Road, Bang Na.

Apple Awards, updates and releases

Life, Graham K. Rogers, Published on 16/12/2015

» Apple announced its 2015 App Awards last week, and Periscope is the top iPhone app. There was also a local list and the top local iPhone app was Enlight. Simple Machines was the top app for the iPad. I have both and am not surprised they were award winners.

Life, Graham K. Rogers, Published on 11/11/2015

» The iPad Pro is expected to be released on Friday, but there is no official date for its arrival in Thailand. Like the Apple TV, I expect users will have to wait a little longer for this and the Apple Pencil that will arrive then, too.

Apple's Swift U-turn

Life, Graham K. Rogers, Published on 01/07/2015

» With its Music service becoming available this week, Apple walked into a lot of criticism over the decision to make the first three months free: from independent music labels and (to great publicity) Taylor Swift. As she noted when withholding permission for iTunes to handle her latest album: free means no royalties for performers.

Repair and maintain with Disk Warrior 5

Life, Graham K. Rogers, Published on 18/02/2015

» Despite my confidence in OS X, it would be wrong of me to suggest that Macs are perfect. A power cut, forced shutdown or other event may very well lead to an onslaught of problems. While the system appears to behave, odd behaviour later on may indicate repairs are needed.

Yosemite's in town, ya varmint!

Life, Graham K. Rogers, Published on 29/10/2014

» Later this week, local users will be able to start ordering iPhone 6 models, although it is rumoured that initially those in some iStudio outlets will only have True Sim cards. I will wait until I can physically hold the two models before making a decision and then order from the online Apple Store. My iPhone 5s is fine for now.

Some excellent apps for photography on the iPhone

Life, Graham K. Rogers, Published on 23/04/2014

» The announcement of the iPhone launch in January 2007 was a game-changing event. I was there and was able to handle a pre-production model the very next day. It was dismissed as irrelevant then, and some still belittle it when they can.

Fine-tune your printing calibration

Database, Graham K. Rogers, Published on 23/06/2010

» A few months ago, I interviewed Danai Chutinaton at Blue Pano, whose nice panorama images are used by several local companies for promotion purposes. He recently got in touch and sent me links to panoramas of the Siam area. He told me he had taken delivery of a new 44" Epson printer, which was installed in his new office near Samitivej Hospital. A few days later I called in, just in time to see a print job being wrapped up (http://www.bluepano.com).

Travel guides on your smart phone

Database, Graham K. Rogers, Published on 20/01/2010

» I am always trying to expand my use of the iPhone, adding to its original design ideas with use of apps: technical evolution, not revolution. The iPhone allows us to use new types of media, for example: traditional media like newspapers and books are declining.
