» Climate change has caused several negative effects such as intensified extreme weather, rising sea levels and disruptions to food systems all over the world. To raise awareness of climate change and move towards solutions, the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation recently organised the forum "Climate Change: Multidimensional Problems And Impacts On Thailand" at The Berkeley Hotel Pratunam and on its Facebook page MHESIThailand.

Now under Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin, art is now among the 11 industries which will be developed and supported by the Thailand Creative Content Agency (THACCA). The 11 industries are art, food, sports, lifestyle, tourism, music, literature, film, games, design, and fashion.

Rap against cruelty

» In collaboration with World Animal Protection Thailand, the song Pai Hai Sood Yood Show Chang (No Elephant Show) by rapper Tawanwad "TangBadVoice" Wanavit was released earlier this month in observance of World Elephant Day, which falls on Aug 12. The video for No Elephant Show depicts the story of a Thai man taking his foreign friend to see an elephant show. Tawanwad appears in the car taking them to the show, with the rapper explaining to the Thai man through rap that behind the scenes, elephants experience cruel training. The music video includes real footage of the abuse suffered by elephants in Thailand.

Winter wonderland

» When visitors look through one side of the windows at Arnek Pasong Building in Chang Chui, they can see a spectacular winter mountain landscape in the small town of Nakanosawa Onsen, in Fukushima prefecture in Japan. Meanwhile, other sides of the building display different scenes of photos taken during the winter in Fukushima by artist Wasinburee Supanichvoraparch. The exhibition, "Fukushima", showcases photos of tourist attractions, such as Ouchi-juku Village, Tadami River and Akabeko Statue, as well as, other destinations that Thais are not familiar with.

Tradition vs trash on Loy Krathong

» From krathong made from banana leaves to those made of styrofoam, bread, ice and other biodegradables, Thais have come up with many different ideas and materials to make floats for the Loy Krathong Festival, during which, on every Full Moon of the 12th lunar month, they pay respect and seek forgiveness from the Goddess of Water. The festival takes place tonight.
