» 'Let's go to Khao Yai," a friend recently suggested via text. Along with her invitation, she attached a picture of a woman sitting amid beautiful flowers, clouded with faded hipster filter. It was an online review saying a blossoming garden in a Khao Yai resort was now open to all visitors for free. The sight of the gorgeous winter flowers drew me in. I said yes.

» Since 1997, more than 2,000 female scientists and researchers from 110 countries around the globe have been offered fellowships for “For Women in Science”, a collaborative effort between L’Oréal Group and the Secretariat of the National Commission for Unesco. In Thailand, the programme has been running for 13 consecutive years to support our female researchers. This year, there were six recipients in three categories — life science, material science and chemistry — who received a grant worth 250,000 baht each to further support their respective research projects.

» I recently travelled to Phu Kradueng National Park in Loei province to experience one of the most famous hiking trails in the country. The mountain rises 1,316m above sea level, and most people take three to five hours on the 5.5km journey to the top. From then on, there is more walking to do. Another 3km on foot and you can pass out at the campsite.

» Under the purple and orange hue of dawn, our bus arrived at the base of Phu Kradueng National Park in Loei province. We had our tents, sleeping bags and backpacks as we got ready to trek one of the most gruelling uphill climbs in the country — a steep slope of 5.5km to the top of this popular mountain destination, which takes anywhere from four to eight hours.
