» In a flurry of confident pronouncements within an hour of the massacre at a Las Vegas country music festival, conservative commentators and activists linked the perpetrator, Stephen Paddock, to liberal or Islamist influences. Rush Limbaugh, still the doyen of right-wing talk radio, credited Islamic State with being Paddock's ideological home, arguing that it was disguised by the liberal media because "for the American left, there is no such thing as militant Islamic terrorism."

Two men known for belligerent rhetoric and rambling speech sat side by side, one elected, one a pretender, both famous for throwing tantrums, their respective wives kept out of the frame (of course). It was a press conference at the White House between President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha on the occasion of the latter's trip of a lifetime.

» Another shocking mass murder has taken place in the US. A lone gunman fired hundreds of rifle rounds at the crowd at an outdoor country music concert in Las Vegas. He killed at least 59 people and wounded more than 550 before committing suicide. In the hotel room he used to launch the attack, 64-year-old killer Stephen Craig Paddock had 16 rifles. Police seized another 18 at his home.
