Overhaul the justice system

News, Published on 11/08/2012

» The Thailand Development Research Institute (TDRI) is known for its strong stance against inefficiency and policies that cause inflation and force consumers to pay needlessly high prices. In May, it targeted the telecommunications sector over the exorbitant cost of phones and the calls made on them, a failing it blamed on the industry's lack of liberalisation and inadequate competition. It makes sense that if prices can be lowered and the quality improved by opening up the market further, then that is what should be done.

News, Published on 01/08/2012

» The death sentences handed down on Monday to three ex-policemen who tortured and murdered a teenager 12 years ago should send several messages to both the public and to other officials who scoff at the rule of law. Pursue the drug dealers

News, Published on 23/01/2012

» Saturday's huge drug bust just outside Bangkok is proof, if any were needed, that the government in Myanmar has a long way to go on its self-proclaimed movement towards legitimacy. So, for that matter, have authorities in this country. Police said they found drugs worth more than one billion baht in their raid. Officers turned up millions of speed tablets and dozens of kilogrammes of crystal methamphetamine in a house in Thanyaburi district of Pathum Thani province. Police have leads on the suspected drug dealers, but the real problem lies far from the Thai border in northern Myanmar.
