Everything's coming up Rosewood

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 29/06/2018

» Rosewood is not a name that rings any personal bells, but I first unknowingly came across it while on a night out in Beijing. The so-far-lousy night took a turn when the social editor of a high-society magazine ushered me to get off my stool at the dingy bar we were in. We were first-timers in Beijing and unlike the Western press in the group, she was in no mood for pole dancers and Mandarin rock covers. She was the most well-informed and refined tippler of the Thai group, so we trustingly followed her taste to Rosewood Beijing, knowing whatever it was, it wasn't going to be the Chinese version of Patpong. It was the right decision, the one we should have gone with three hours earlier. What greeted us upon arrival were stunning high ceilings, stylish understatement and immense relief that there are chic and modern places to head to in the post-Mao capital.

New looks, old values

» 'Whatchu lookin' at?" Rattanarat "Ploy" Aurthaveekul might have yelled back to her husband's stare before they leave the house. Her taunting look is, however, followed by a sheepish chuckle, before she adds: "Gosh, this outfit is actually really uncomfortable and kind of revealing too. I guess I should go change." Gone are her fashionably freewheeling days -- her closet now tipping more mother than model. But that's about the most that has changed for this style icon, best known as one half of the modelling/actress twins Petch-Ploy.

Style for daft punks

» Once upon a time, being a web designer was considered an obscure and uncommon occupation that nobody really understood. Today, the same feeling may be applied to "fashion engineer". Fashion technology is the new field to place your bets on.

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 09/06/2016

» Mark your calendars because the season where parlours give ice cream out for free is here! No need to scream for ice cream, but be prepared to run for it tomorrow for a free scoop. American chain Cold Stone, famous for their ice cream mix-in, will be celebrating their "Free Ice Cream Day" tomorrow, from 1pm onwards. Customers can choose between a scoop of Chocolate Devotion or Strawberry Blonde at every branch across the country, with the exception of Suvarnabhumi airport. Hop to it though, because they're only giving out 355 cones per branch! The brand has arrived on our hot shores for six years and to celebrate that, there's also a 20% discount on all ice cream until the end of July.

House of heels

» 'When people say sneakers are comfortable, I just don't find them comfortable at all," says shoemaker Christian Louboutin. "I have delicate feet so I cannot wear rubber soles for a long time, otherwise I suffocate. I need leather soles and yes, plastic is soft, but it's almost like it's intoxicating you. But that's personal."

Keep calm and wear pastel

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 17/12/2015

» Say goodbye to masala red because the colour verdict for next spring's fashion (and everything else on the planet) is out. Colour classifier Pantone has announced Rose Quartz and Serenity as 2016's colours of the year. In the award's history of 15 years, this will be a first where two colours are to share the influential title -- it's also a match made in pastel heaven, where a soft warm pink grazes next to its opposite: a soft cool blue.
