» Thai indie kids used to wish Bangkok had an international music festival -- now they've got two happening at the same time. Music fans will need to flip a coin this weekend to choose between Maho Rasop and Very Festival, both of which have international headliners and both of which are on Saturday and Sunday, only a few kilometres apart.

» Lisbon's hills are no joke. The city is built on seven of them, and a vigorous uphill stroll often sees you rounding a corner only to be faced with another, steeper climb. Your walk from one neighbourhood to the next can be a 20-minute hike. Your boutique room could be on the top floor of a charming, lift-free guest house. If you're not fit, forget it.

» Some concert promoters are out to make as much money as possible, bringing in only the safest acts that are guaranteed seat-fillers. Others bring in their favourite bands just to see them play in Thailand. Supakit "Dew" Supha is thankfully in the latter camp.

» Depending on your age and sensibility, you either found Tom Green's comedy utterly hilarious or unfathomably puerile. His eponymous show, which ran on MTV from 1999, saw this gangly Canadian out to annoy the population of North America, sticking his camera in people's faces and doing dumb stunts, thereby providing a blueprint for the Jackass boys and a generation of foolish YouTubers.

In rehab for cocaine addiction, he's also one of the increasing number of professionals aiming to make the music industry a safer place for those with substance abuse issues.
