The art of poking fun

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 01/06/2018

» Tanawat "Pop" Prakammanu, 26, works as a graphic designer at an advertising agency in Bangkok and runs his Facebook page Prakammanu (fb.com/Prakammanu), where he showcases his drawings in his spare time. He went viral after publishing an action-filled Avengers-inspired comic with a cast full of figures in Thai politics from PM Prayut Chan-o-cha to student activist Netiwit Chotiphatphaisal. Pop poked fun at them with sharp humour (even though he insists he's a casual observer) and witty dialogues. His latest effort has been shared more than 100,000 times. His page isn't the first to poke fun at Thai politics but we think it's definitely worth checking out especially if you want to see Uncle Tu having a fist-fight with Thaksin Shinawatra. We talked to Pop about his serious art of poking fun but at, his request, no serious political comment.

Work Fails

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 25/05/2018

» Like personal days, we're all entitled to a few work blunders. You may spill coffee on your desk or send the latest office gossip to the wrong LINE group. (Guilty!) If you're having a bad day at the office, I would like to remind you that you're a mere mortal with his/her flaws and you'll learn from your mistakes, get better and thrive and so on. (We've all read the inspirational quotes on FB and IG)

Exploring lesser travelled paths

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 18/05/2018

» Ray MacDonald is a Thai-Scottish actor/model/TV host who first came into the public's radar as the eccentric co-host of Teen Talk on Channel 5 back in the 90s (sorry, if this reference makes you feel old). He went on to star in many films, commercials and appear on magazine covers. But lately, it seems he has been bitten by the travel bug and can't get over it, resulting in travel shows with unique spins that he has produced and hosted. Food Tribe on LINE TV (three new episodes from Wednesdays to Fridays), his latest effort, yet again showcases his passion for exploring the paths less travelled. He visited tribe people in different parts of the world and went super local, and by that, we mean he lived, hunted and ate with them. Though Food Tribe is half way through, we think you will miss out on something if you don't give it a look. If that doesn't make you want to watch, we spoke to Ray, too.

Is your friend overworked?

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 18/05/2018

» Working too hard can take an emotional toll on us. Since I'm all about the peace, love, zen and well-being of everyone, I would like to propose a few telltale signs that someone near you may not be doing well. If someone you know exhibits one or all of the following, you should, as a good friend, tell them to take it easy or tell them to consider resigning because the job may not be the right fit. Look out for this behaviour:

Thailand Needs Facebook 4.0

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 11/05/2018

» Tinder may be trembling right now, thanks to the soon-to-arrive dating service on Facebook. Sure the social media network can do whatever, but it should have introduced a new concept instead of repackaging someone's else idea to try and monopolise everything.

Change the world, one photo at a time

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 04/05/2018

» Theerachat "Tom" Potisit is a freelance photographer who's behind many iconic images that went viral in recent years. On top of countless fashion shoots, you may have already seen his work, which stimulates conversation on relevant social issues without knowing the man. In 2014, he saw an opportunity to raise awareness on marine life conservation when a Bryde's whale beached in Samut Prakarn and staged a fashion shoot there. Remember the "Anatomy 101" exhibition at Chulalongkorn Hospital in 2015? It was a photo exhibition where Tom and Surachai "Pui" Saengsuwan, a noted fashion photographer, took beautiful, haunting pictures of models and celebs in a hospital setting to raise awareness on organ donation. Most recently, he organised "Know-R", a photography exhibition to highlight livelihood of communities along the Chao Phraya River. It was staged on an old rice barge in February. Tom has also earned a reputation as a photographer/conservationist for his contribution to raising awareness on endangered species over the years. Guru spoke with this fascinating photographer whose works combine art, fashion and raising awareness.

A Study in Black

» A picture of two cosplayers who imitated the Black Panther and construction tycoon and accused poacher Premchai Karnasuta went viral earlier this week. In case you need a refresher why nobody thinks he's innocent, I've played Sherlock to present you with three reasons.
