Begging for a drink
News, Postbag, Published on 27/07/2019
» There is a shortage of fresh water. It happens most years and is far from unexpected. Where is the rainmaking initiative? Maybe the government has forgotten about it in the same way that they have forgotten everyone but themselves.

Keep watch on corruption
News, Postbag, Published on 28/07/2019
» I'm delighted Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha included fighting corruption as one of the main policies of his new government, for corruption has been omni-present in our past regimes.

A taxing matter
News, Postbag, Published on 29/07/2019
» Re: "Revenue mulls capital gains tax", (Business, July 26). The old chestnut of introducing capital gains tax on gains generated on shares sold through the Stock Exchange of Thailand has come up again.

Unacceptable attitude
News, Postbag, Published on 30/07/2019

A few weeks ago, this newspaper had an article about a recycling shoe workshop showing, without comments, a woman in a burka. A burka, in Thailand!

Some dirt won't hurt
News, Postbag, Published on 06/08/2019
» Re: "Cleaning up Khao San", (BP, Aug 4). It is distressing to see Bangkok Post reporters struggling to put a positive spin on the imminent gutting of Khao San Road.

Old habits die hard
News, Postbag, Published on 05/08/2019
» Re: "Army unwilling to yield to democracy", (Opinion, July 31). Erich Parpart is correct to say that democracy in Thailand is a distant possibility. The reasons should be obvious to anyone who has lived in any other democratic society.

Troubled justice?
News, Postbag, Published on 04/08/2019
» Re: "Thainess not all bad", (PostBag, July 30). I think everyone agrees that societies of other countries include families (and situations) similar to the one he refers to.
