Trimming off the top
Oped, Postbag, Published on 01/05/2020
» I suspect there is more at play than mere incompetence with regard to the excessive "pruning" of Bangkok's urban trees (BP, April 27). At least some of the trees in question are Burma padauk (known in Thailand as pradu, and scientifically as Pterocarpus macrocarpus).

Ruling is inconsistent
News, Postbag, Published on 27/02/2020
» I agree with the spirit of the Constitutional Court's verdict on the FFP's loan saga: loans should be considered as contributions. But have the Thai Election Commission or courts previously ruled that loans are, legally speaking, contributions? The Bangkok Post's Feb 21 editorial said: "The EC never ... informed political parties that there are regulations barring them from taking out loans. That's because there are no such rules." Oblivious army
News, Postbag, Published on 27/09/2019
» According to the latest UN report on rising sea levels, Bangkok is one of the cities that will be experiencing yearly floods 30 years from now. If the military was really serious about protecting the country, they would be using their budget to move their more vulnerable installations to higher ground and buying equipment to combat floods instead of the attack helicopters, missiles and rockets that army commander Gen Apirat Kongsompong wants.
