Life, Graham K. Rogers, Published on 29/03/2017

» Despite several sure-fire rumours, there was no special event in March. Instead, there was a hint of change when the online stores went down for maintenance on Tuesday evening. A number of additions and changes were made to iPhones and iPads, while new Apple Watch bands were also announced. Apple updated its Swift Playgrounds app with new languages and announced Clips, a new iOS app for making videos: perfect for sharing on social-networking sites. It will be released in April.

Correcting impressions, Apple news and a backup alternative

Life, Graham K. Rogers, Published on 01/02/2017

» I bumped into one of my former students one evening last week travelling home on the BTS. As a computer engineer he is interested in technology and asked me about the AirPods. I took them out to chat. He told me that he had heard that they fell out easily. Not true, I said. Not once, even riding on the back of motorcycles through the Thon Buri sois has this happened.

    Not just expensive toys

Life, Graham K. Rogers, Published on 09/11/2016

» In the days following the announcement of the latest MacBook Pro computers, reports followed the usual pattern. The MacBook Pro misses the boat; Apple is doomed; Tim Cook should be replaced; and there were the usual questions about "what would Steve Jobs have done/said/thought?". An Apple product is like an iceberg: only a small part is visible above the surface; most is hidden.

Life, Graham K. Rogers, Published on 05/10/2016

» Last week it was reported that an iPhone 7 was delivered that appeared to have caught fire while in transit. » To read some of the press in the last few days, one would think that Apple is about to go bust. Again. Display rumours were exciting; a new iPhone shape was expected. Now Nikkei claims that the iPhone 7 will not have enough that is new, so Apple will die or something. That caused another drop in Apple shares, which may be the point: what goes down, will go up; then look at all the profits.

If you start me up I'll sometimes stop

Life, Graham K. Rogers, Published on 04/02/2015

» Apple's record financial quarter announced last week surprised many. With over 74 million phones sold, it is not only fanboys these days. Of course, with a record income of $74.6 billion and profits at $18 billion, some critics are already reciting the "Apple is doomed" mantra. The idea this time is sustainability. The only way now, is down.

My sexy 6 is finally here

Life, Graham K. Rogers, Published on 05/11/2014

» For several days late last month, there was a tantalising page on the Apple Online Store for Thailand. Users could select the iPhone 6 model and colour of their choice, as well as the capacity, but the "buy" button was stubbornly greyed out. Until Friday.
