A bit of convenience is a breath of fresh airport

Life, Peerawat Jariyasombat, Published on 05/02/2015

» Airport taxis have yet again become the talk of the town. Last month, when a Japanese man took an airport taxi, instead of being charged the standard 35 baht fee, the driver insisted on a starting rate of 75 baht.

Looking to the dragon

Life, Peerawat Jariyasombat, Published on 30/10/2017

» Every time I get an assignment in China, old images of chaotic cities pop up in my mind. From the country's notorious images of dirty toilets where severe smells always frighten foreigners, no queuing, noisy conversations, to the hustle and bustle of narrow roads where bicycles, tricycles, motorcycles, cars, and trucks share the same route and try to criss-cross each other, for me a trip to China means language barriers and a massive culture shock.

Deep South scary? That's news to me

» North Korea has announced that it's ready for the fight. The US and Japan joined hands in a naval exercise off the Korean Peninsula. China and Russia showed off their military prowess by sending their troops and aircraft carriers to the area. Tensions in the Korean Peninsula have escalated in the past few weeks. The whole world is anxious about the possibility of the next war.

Life, Peerawat Jariyasombat, Published on 24/06/2015

Stay on top of Otop

Life, Peerawat Jariyasombat, Published on 17/04/2015

» The Songkran festival just wrapped up, and I am sure most of you have only just returned from a long trip. Besides getting soaked in water wars, shopping was also included on many people's holiday itineraries.

OPINION

Going global, buying local

Life, Peerawat Jariyasombat, Published on 06/06/2014

» Shopping and travelling are very different activities that somehow get along swimmingly. Looking for new things to buy can be an experience as exciting as the journey itself. And many tourists, particularly those who don’t travel often, regard shopping as the primary priority on any trip.

OPINION

Thainess, anywhere but here

News, Peerawat Jariyasombat, Published on 07/05/2014

» Last month I visited Jinghong, the capital of Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture. Situated at the southern tip of Yunnan province, the southernmost district of China, Jinghong’s atmosphere is not “Chinese” as we’re familiar with; it looks and feels more like Thailand.

Our neighbours are on the road to change

Life, Peerawat Jariyasombat, Published on 28/05/2013

» I've just returned home after a 10-day trip around Myanmar. Since it's our next-door neighbour, most Thais assume that they know Myanmar very well, but I'm not sure that very many of us do actually have a deep understanding of this country which is now in the process of fast-paced change after making the decision to open its doors wider to the outside world.
