» Ah, Bangkok -- the city where road laws are more like suggestions than laws, where the traffic is horrible, the air is polluted, where that Rolex you bought stops working the next day and where a "ping pong show" isn't a game of table tennis. There are many weird and sometimes downright horrifying things we experience living in Bangkok, like being stuck in a taxi with a perverted driver. But despite the many, many things we complain about, Bloomberg's Misery Index (which is a thing, you can Google it) has named Thailand "the least miserable country". In light of that, we've compiled a few reasons why we love living in Bangkok (we are aware we're focusing on Bangkok and not Thailand. We see you rushing to troll us, haters) to remind you to look at the brighter side and forget the fact that the elections are postponed again... Oops.

» Though the year has felt like it's dragged on, it's gone by pretty quick. It's December and we're a few weeks shy of 2021. Of course, with the festive season comes decorations all over the city. » Living in Bangkok has its share of ups and downs. Then again, what city doesn't? We know we complain about living in the city in every issue we publish (we have plenty more) but that doesn't mean there are people who share the same grievances, but unlike us who just whine, have decided to do something about it. Sure, there are plenty of things to be improved upon or done away within Bangkok and we're pretty sure we all can write a long list. » Hom Nguyen has had quite a journey to be where he's at. Arguably, he would have entered the art scene much earlier if not for life and responsibilities hindering him (adulting is hard, folks). But one pivotal and rather painful event catapulted him into it and the rest is history. Now, after having famous and iconic people as subjects of his tantalising and intriguing portraits, as well as having held exhibitions in many parts of Europe and Asia, the French artist brings his art to the Big Mango at the Galerie Adler with an exhibition titled "Racines", curated by Laurent Macaluso. Guru chatted with Nugyen about his journey, art and exhibition in Bangkok.

» SJ "Ess Jay" Nolan is the president and manager of Bangkok Roller Derby. I can imagine you going, "Wait, there's a Bangkok Roller Derby?". The contemporary cinema aims to serve as a platform for local independent filmmakers and films, as well as making non-blockbuster indie films and classics accessible. Having just concluded the Fem Film Festival, which screened movies highlighting struggles and accomplishments of women in honour of International Women's Day, Guru sat down with Sarinya and Hudso-Ellis to talk about Bangkok Screening Room.

» Pop art has started to pop (wink wink) up a lot in the Big Mango, from curious structures at well-known malls to colourful, eclectic murals on faded walls. It wasn't a surprise then when SO Sofitel Bangkok welcomed pop/street artist Jisbar to showcase his vibrant pieces until Mar 13. The Paris-based artist has showcased his talent on canvases and other items like a bike (a design in collaboration with BMW and showcased at the exhibition) and even Cardi B's handbags. He's chosen Bangkok to be his first foray into Asia so Guru sat down and talked with him about his art and what drew him to Bangkok.

» A favourite Thai street dish everyone loves is khao man gai or Hainanese chicken rice. It's simple and easily accessible thanks to the indomitable presence of Bangkok street vendors. The dish is also popular in Singapore and widely sold in food courts over there. It's a dish we see everyday and perhaps even eat regularly, but Sergeant Kitchen promises a premium version of the dish.

But Grub Bangkok is bringing cheesesteaks to you. The food truck that serves the iconic sandwich, as well as burritos, pops up in events all around Bangkok, but more importantly, they also deliver to 13 districts in Bangkok. An order on FB or a phone call and they'll bring a cheesesteak right to your doorstep. However, the question remains: are the cheesesteaks any good?
