Towering 198 metres above Sathorn in the heart of downtown Bangkok, Vertigo is one of the highest restaurants in the world. And there's nothing down-to-earth about the gourmet cuisine; this magnificent restaurant, with its open-air views sweeping 360 degrees -- from the twinkling stars above to the glittering cityscape beneath -- is truly out of this world.

    Christmas memes, Guru style

Guru, Catherine Faulder, Published on 22/12/2017

» So, Christmas is around the corner. And we're on the side of the globe that doesn't super celebrate it, apart from the commercial side of it, that is... Christmas in Bangkok is just another excuse to spend even more time in any one of the growing list of malls, of course. And the slight drop in temperature, alongside the Christmas-themed beverages at Starbucks, do make you feel like it could be a kind of Christmas, of sorts. To celebrate Bangkok's very own version of the holiday, this year, we've come up with our very own Christmas-themed memes. Because, what kind of scrooges would we be if we didn't?

    Kathmandu getaway

» Nepal may not be a go-to choice when Thais think about travel destinations like they do Japan, Hong Kong or South Korea. We'll go as far as saying that the landlocked country is a bit of mystery. But if you're up for diverse cultures, natural beauties and a little adventure, Nepal is it!

    High Thai dining

Guru, Eric E Surbano, Published on 22/12/2017

» The setting: Not to be confused with Saffron, the indoor restaurant, Saffron Sky Garden is high above the hustle, bustle and traffic of Sathon Road on the 52nd floor. This garden lounge has recently reopened and caters to those who are looking to unwind after work over a drink or two, or perhaps a romantic night out with a special someone. Plus, it's a more intimate and less crowded alternative than the famous Vertigo and offers the same breathtaking view of the Bangkok skyline and Chao Phraya River. You can choose to sit at their high-stools and tables or choose the bigger tables with comfy couches if you're looking to order more than just drinks.

    Omega makes a splash

    Life, Published on 22/12/2017

» It is a perfect, cloudless day -- with the brilliant blue sky and the equally sparkling turquoise waters setting up a perfect photo op. At the head of the yacht, an eye-catching beauty in a fluttering pink dress and her female company are having some fun taking photos. In fact, the 40 other people on this yacht have already gone through this process too, but none quite give off the modelesque aura, nor are they quite as captivating to look at.

» Classics are forever, but who wouldn't want to inject some colour into their accessories come the holidays? It's only during this time of year that the excuse for getting a new handbag in hot red, with glitter, plumes, fur, embroidery, sequins, extra shine and everything in between is legitimate, especially when it's going to look dated soon enough. But if you've never been the timeless type to begin with, we've searched for something a little more special, befitting this holiday season. Here are Elite's picks of the most exclusive and eye-popping arm candy currently in stores -- just in time for you to treat yourself or that lovely lady in your life.

    Ice ice baby

Guru, Eric E Surbano, Published on 22/12/2017

» Shaved ice is commonly found streetside in Bangkok and is a cheap way to cool yourself from the blistering heat even in the middle of December (Yeah, this cool wave generally doesn't last long). Taiwan's got their own version of shaved ice topped with a little more than just syrup and milk, and Taro Cube is one of the latest dessert shops to the Taiwanese version in the Land of Smiles. Despite being open a mere two months, Taro Cube's already got three locations. The newest and biggest one at Central Pinklao has a slightly larger menu than the other two, but we opted to visit the branch at Central Chidlom.
