His father will make a "contribution" to the police's "favourite charity". His sentence will be halved because of some "technicality". He'll spend one year at the most in a comfortable cell in a place of detention for the rich. His father will make a payment to the people who suffered in the accident, and they will keep quiet because they know "the rules". When the dust has settled after 6 months, he'll be released as everyone will have forgotten about the case. He will be told to keep his head down for a while, and the status quo will have been restored. I've seen this happen so many times over the last 25 years. With money you buy the kind of "justice" you want.[/quote:swt3s55m] Yep, i,m afraid this is EXACTLY whats going to happen , witnesses will be bribed or intimidated, The usual palms will be "greased", and at the end of the day he will "walk", his license will be restored(if he lost it in the first place) and he will be back on the streets to cause further mayhem , i find it somewhat strange that people like MINNIE,who are so keen to lambaste Abhisit, the DEMS and PAD seem to overlook what is happening day in day out all over Thailand in regards to "real" justice".

If you are rich or famous enough then anything is possible."--- Victor, you cannot possibly be serious in this comparison between the Thai and American judicial systems. In cases of motor vehicle negligence there is no 'negotiation' in the states and law/sentencing is adhered to quite uniformly, particularly when it is a matter of involuntary manslaughter. You can be sure that this individual would be in jail for several years (most likely more than 10 as an initial sentence) in the states no matter what family he was from. while it is true that the American judicial system needs some adjustments in areas such as white collar crime... please refrain from letting your frustration with specific American policies inform your overall opinion...especially if you so choose to propagate such ill informed opinions on a public message board such as this Avi the American[/quote:2qt2xn25] Hey AVI,quite right ,many people may have forgot that 2 newspaper reporters brought about the resignation of one of the most powerful men in the world in America , something like this here in Thailand would be a total impossibility, even for an MP never mind the PM, here a free press is just a myth.

    • villager commented : [quote="spacehead":22qhrvdt]well folks, nothing is different here in austria, absolutely not. if you got a name, reputation, fame and enough money to be considered one of the "upper ten thousand" of the country you will not serve a long time in prison, even if you are found guilty of any crime. if guys like these trespass the law, it´s a "gentleman´s delict", not a crime in the real term. so lets hope next time there´s some concrete pole or brigde pillar around when he´s out speeding.[/quote:22qhrvdt] Hey Spacehead why are you so sure the maniac,s not in the slammer?, if you have some evidence I,m sure not only myself but many others would like to read it, and if he,s been found guilty of such madness why should he ever hold a driving license again.
