» There’s a somewhat successful novelist named Mr Jake, who feels bad that (as he says) the 'best and brightest' politicians are now relegated to ad hoc jobs such as running cafés! At the same time the author doesn’t put forth any solutions on what might be in Thailand’s best interest for...

the real cost of nepotism, cronyism, corruption

By yetanother, Created on: 03/04/2015, Last updated on: 25/01/2016

» the real cost of nepotism: in this i include cronyism: the thai public seems ok with the idea of hiring family, friends, associates; to them this is normal; what i believe they fail to recognize is why this is bad; it is bad for thailand ; it is bad for all of us; the funds that thailand govt spends...

    • terryt commented : Good intentions! Yet another few decades before this can be righted. Seriously, don’t waste your energy thinking about it. Just spend a minimum amount of money in Thailand and enjoy some of it's pleasures.

    • Cazzie commented : All politicians and political parties assert the fight against corruption is one of the main points of their political program. The fight against corruption sounds nice by marketing, but nobody not cerried about corruption reducing and the majority of politicians are corrupted.

    • SMercer commented : I read the political news and follow the stories in The Bangkok Post. It's good to know what is happening in the country in which I choose to live. Of course, you need to read more than the official news to have an understanding of the true picture. Most Thai people seem to know what is happening behind the scenes. A lot is just gossip and innuendo, the same as in other countries, but there is always a grain of truth. The media follows a sharp line and a lot can be read into what they do not say or report on. You can also discern some of this background in editorials and opinion pieces. I guess what I am saying is that, yes, the news often seems contrived, repetitive and with a disingenuous ability to forget the past. But the thread is there for those who listen to the hints and want to know more. Thai people know a lot more than they will ever say. I think we should be the same.

Simply a waste of time, as for the reasons stated above.

» I feel so sad for all my Thai friends You have a caretaker PM who is clueless, That she says one thing does another. She is dividing your country in two. • ozron commented : You are obviously a Democrat supporter and have no idea of what democracy is. It was invented by the ancient Greeks about 2,300 years ago. Abhisit and PDRC have only one goal and that is to remove the TRT party and install Abhisist as prime minister through threat and intimidation. His reform council would be biased with a 100 Democrats. Not the democratic way. Also a lot of damage to the Thai economy in lost GDP and lost jobs. The army have stayed out of this and I hope they continue to do so, they have no place in a democratic government. This is treason against the government, the people and HRH. Abhisit's reforms are no more than putting bias into the constitution to make it easy for the Democrats to win rather than do the hard work and build up their supporter base. They are really only based on the Bangkok elite and middle class and the South more out of loyalty to Chuan Leek Pai. Yingluck's are real attempts to identify genuine reforms. Abhisit runs from each election because he has no chance of winning as he doesn't have a big enough supporter base. Democracy is government of the people, by the people and for the people. The electoral majority decides the government. A democracy has the ability to change governments when the majority of the people wish it at an election, not the minority of thugs called the PDRC.
