What has uncle Tu done wrong?

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 23/10/2020

» A Twitter account belonging to the Prime Minister Operations Center (@PMOC10) last Saturday shared eight pictures of Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha along with a question that goes, "What has PM Uncle Tu done wrong?". The question is obviously asked in a passive-aggressive and I-feel-underappreciated tone. These pictures seem to be a protest against criticism of his governance and response to throngs of people who have come out to protest against him.

» Halloween will be upon us in less than 24 hours and it's an excuse for you to dress as supernatural beings, popular characters from movies, celebs, generic archetypes and even food items. And if you still have no idea what costume should you wear for Halloween party tomorrow, you're in luck. Here's my costume idea that you can easily pull off.

    Thailand: The Land of...

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 06/11/2020

» I'm sure, I'm not the only one who has been rethinking Thailand's nickname The Land Of Smiles. According to Win Lyovarin, two-time S.E.A. Write winner and 2013 National Artist for Literature, Britisher David Lander, creative director at an ad agency, should be credited for coming up with the phrase. Lander came up with the slogan in a pitch for the Tourism Authority of Thailand. Fun fact: The Land Of Smiles is also the title of a German operetta, which premiered in 1929.

» You may be reading this while staying indoors as the Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rain in a few areas of Bangkok and adjoining provinces until Monday. If the downpour gets you down (on top of pretty much everything in your newsfeed lately), I'm here to lift up your spirits by looking at the light side of heavy rain in Thailand.

    World mental health day

» Tomorrow, Oct 10, is World Mental Health Day. While I'm sure you can Google tips on how to improve your mental health (one from me would be taking a break from the Sarasasgate), I can do one better with a few Thai mobile tools that can ease the mind. Consider them the first step into normalising the topic of mental health issues.

    World Food Day

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 16/10/2020

» Today (October 16) is World Food Day. Don't feel bad that you don't know that it's a thing because I only learned about it last week. This international day is created in honour of the date of the founding of the United Nations' Food and Agriculture Organization in 1945. It's celebrated in many countries to raise awareness on important issues such as food hunger, food security, malnutrition and the impact of our food consumption on Mother Nature with different themes each year. To commemorate the day, I would like to suggest ways you can partake.

There is such thing as a stupid question

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 18/09/2020

» They say there is no such thing as a stupid question. Idiomatically speaking, this adage may be true but, for Thai textbooks, there may be some, in a literal sense.

    Baht Better Spent

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 28/08/2020

» On Monday, the Royal Thai Navy defended its controversial purchase of two Chinese submarines at a humungous price tag of B22.5 billion (that's 11-digits, if you're wondering). The purchase incited online backlash for its inopportune timing, given the severe impact of Covid-19 on the economy. Not to mention, speculation of good ole corruption synonymous with a procurement project.
