Guru, Eric E Surbano, Published on 01/03/2019

» Who doesn't love pizza? If you say "me" then kindly be aware that everyone is judging you. Pizza is one of the most loved comfort foods and honestly, this circular pie of goodness and love brings such a smile to our faces every time we see it. Fortunately, Bangkok isn't short on restos selling pizzas and Bangkokians have a pretty wide selection of where to satiate our cravings. Whether your taste buds are wanting some traditional Italian pizzas or perhaps you want to feast on a full one-metre rectangular pizza with your buddies, you can get all these right here in the Big Mango -- you just have to know where to look. And that's where we come in. Rest easy, readers -- here are our picks of the best pizzas around the city.

» The Far Cry franchise is back with another story of deranged, violent lunatics having taken over an otherwise idyllic, beautiful location where you, the hero, are stuck and must lead the locals to freedom by shooting and blowing stuff up. It's the Far Cry formula, so is it just "same old, same old"?

New York style goodness

» Authentic New York-style pizzas are in short supply here in the Big Mango. However, they're slowly but surely making their way into the market. Soho Pizza is one of the few places where you can get your NY-style pizza craving satisfied. Located on Sukhumvit 11, Soho Pizza is making the 18-inch pizza even more accessible to Bangkokians and we are eternally grateful.

Lend a hand

» In a world where everything seems bleak, we try our best to find some sort of escape. Whether or not this is simply denial of reality is something we won't delve into (we're Guru, we don't do existential crises). But with the stress of the real world and our quest to discover things that would temporary alleviate what we feel, we seldom ask the question, "What can I do to make the world a little better?." It may seem cliché but there are a number of little things you can do and it's not all about volunteering in a dense forests where you have to sleep in rickety tents with no toilets (shudder) all for the sake of saving Mother Earth. There are simple things like buying something online, adopting a doggo or even go shopping that can help a cause. This week, we've got some causes that you can get behind.

The contemporary cinema aims to serve as a platform for local independent filmmakers and films, as well as making non-blockbuster indie films and classics accessible. Having just concluded the Fem Film Festival, which screened movies highlighting struggles and accomplishments of women in honour of International Women's Day, Guru sat down with Sarinya and Hudso-Ellis to talk about Bangkok Screening Room.

Enter The Mango Garden, a dessert place in Siam Paragon to help us cool off in the most refreshing and delicious way. While this branch has been around for a year and a half, its first branch was on Phi Phi island. The brand also has shops in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

A summer of fun

» Summer is here -- like that's not at all obvious. As the heat bears down on all of us Bangkokians, the temptation to simply spend these hellish days locked up in our rooms with the AC turned high (or is it low? You get what I mean) while we cuddle in our blankets and binge hours and hours on end of Netflix shows is strong. But that doesn't have to be the case. There's still a bunch of enjoyable things to do around the city despite the heat. In fact, they're not only fun, but they're perfect things to during the summer time. So stop being a lazy bum, get off that couch and outta the house, and don't worry, you can still have your ice cream. Here's a few summer activities to get you up and going during this heatwave.
