Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 26/10/2018

» To help you get into a spooky mindframe for Halloween, I would like to share a few Thai-style horror stories. But since people have a shorter attention span these days (who doesn't?), I have summed up the shortest stories that have been circulated online. If you get all of them, you are pretty well-versed in Thai culture. Kudos!

Luxe and lush

» Some resorts can be a destination in themselves. Especially one with plenty of activities and things to do on site. After 20 minutes in a posh Volvo SUV from Phuket International Airport and a few winding roads, you'll arrive at the lush surroundings of Trisara Phuket -- "the garden in the third heaven", in Sanskrit -- where villas and suites are nestled on a gentle hill slope.

Hitting High Notes

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 12/10/2018

» This year saw finalists from Southeast Asia, South Korea, India, Australia and China perform at Aloft Seoul Myeongdong on Sep 20. Hanita Bhambri delivered a powerful performance of Let Me Go and is this year's winner. Through Aloft's partnership with Universal Music Group, she gets a music video and a digital release of her single to kick start her career. Although Nontree "Nate" Paitoonvongvira, who represented SEA, didn't win, he wowed the audience with a catchy performance so much that we want (you) to get to know him. You may remember him performing a jazz rendition of Britney Spears' Toxic on The Voice but there's more to this singer/interior designer.

» The graduation season has arrived with major universities in Bangkok hosting commencement ceremonies. Heck, your Facebook newsfeed may already be flooded with pictures of graduating friends in full-makeup and gowns (minus tiaras). There's nothing better than joining this joyous period with a few graduation-inspired memes. Consider them my gift to you. Hope you get a chuckle or two out of them.  g

True costs only Bangkokians know

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 28/09/2018

» Have you noticed that somethings in life come with hidden costs -- monetary or otherwise -- that we may not be aware of until we experience it? And some of them are pretty unique to the Bangkok way of life. If you're not sure what I'm getting at, take a look at the examples below that may make you nod along (or hopefully laugh along). g

The road to redemption

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 21/09/2018

» Akkarin "Rung" Puri spent almost half of his life behind bars. Instead of hiding his dark past, he's open about his ex-inmate status and uses it to inspire convicts to change their way and campaign for understanding and, more importantly, second chance for them to be part of society again. A guitar maker (Be Light Guitar; fb.com/belightguitar) and speaker at prisons, Rung talked to us about his long road to redemption.

» You can picnic Parisian-style in the middle of Sukhumvit. And, no, I'm not talking about going to Benchasiri Park. You can picnic indoors and more at The Bar Upstairs, the latest venue by Soho Hospitality.
