Stories that got blown out of proportion, thanks to social media

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 27/07/2018

» While I appreciate social media for being a multi-faceted tool for keeping up with friends (and frenemies), indulging in endless cat videos, stalking beautiful strangers and showing off what I ate or where I stayed (I'm only human), it's also an amplifier for some stories that probably don't need the attention of the entire country. Not sure what I'm getting at? Here are a few stories that, IMHO, are of little value, but, thanks to social media, we are drawn to care about.

    Club escape

Guru, Eric E Surbano, Published on 27/07/2018

» Taking a vacation is supposed to be a time to relax, unwind and escape reality for a little bit. However, it's the planning prior to the vacation that can cause stress and chaos. Where do you want to go? Where are you going to stay? Do you want to go around and explore the local sights or is this going to be a staycation sort of thing? And then there's the million dollar question: how much is this all going to cost? Will I be able to afford it or is this vacay worth living off saltine crackers for a month?

    For the Love of Costumes

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 20/07/2018

» A Thai beauty pageant can be captivating for several reasons, the beauties themselves, the obvious nose contouring, the contestants introducing themselves and the province which they represent in a high-pitched voice at the end -- just to name a few.

    Welcome to the Philippines

Guru, Nianne-Lynn Hendricks, Published on 20/07/2018

» The Philippines is not known for its food. In fact, it is the one country in Southeast Asia whose cuisine is the least popular. And the only Filipino restaurant to have survived 15 years in the business in Bangkok is Mabuhay (which in Tagalog loosely translates as "welcome").

    Creamalicious

Guru, Eric E Surbano, Published on 20/07/2018

» When you walk into 7-Eleven and head over to their refrigerated items (usually where those quick meals and sandwiches are), you'll find vanilla and chocolate eclairs that are pretty good. The only problem is that "cream puffs" would be the more correct term to describe them. An eclair has an elongated, oblong shape that's filled with cream but also topped with icing, and this is the misconception that Lightning Choux is setting out to correct.

    Click canvas

    Guru, Published on 20/07/2018

» Technology enthusiast and designer Natthakit "Kimbab" Kangsadansenanon presents his largest project to date titled "Click Canvas". On display at Yelo House until July 29, the project reflects Kimbab's interest in technology and highlights a new way to engage with it. Instead of simply admiring the work, visitors must be the ones to create an image onto a blank canvas made of LED light boxes by pressing them. Guru spoke to Kimbab about his new interactive art, if we can call it that, and the interactions between humans and technology in today's world.

Guru, Nianne-Lynn Hendricks, Published on 20/07/2018

» Dining in unusual places with people you've never met is a new concept in Bangkok, and has still to catch on. So, here I am trying to promote the supperclub agenda. If you like good food and meeting new people, a supperclub is for you.
