    Apple's dip: What comes next?

Life, Graham K. Rogers, Published on 04/05/2016

» Everyone knew Apple was going to have a not-so-good quarter, except perhaps Wall Street, which reacted in the only way Wall Street knows how: hitting Apple's share price and claiming that Apple is doomed (again). Some also called for the head of Tim Cook.

Changing strategies with the iPad Pro

Life, Graham K. Rogers, Published on 02/03/2016

» Last July, I was delighted with the arrival of the MacBook. Despite its 1.1GHz processor, it provided respectable performance, helped by the 8GB 1,600GHz RAM and the 256GB SSD. This was the same SSD as in my Mac mini. That has provided quite good performance, along with the 512GB SSD in my MacBook Pro. Both of those Macs also have 16GB RAM, so with all three devices, processor speed is not the main criterion for performance.

    Raising the drawbridges

Life, Graham K. Rogers, Published on 24/02/2016

» In a court decision in California, Apple was ordered to design a new operating system that would disable the erasing of all contents of an iPhone 5c after 10 failed passcode attempts. Within hours Tim Cook had put out a testy comment on the decision and Apple's commitment to its customers -- not the one specific iPhone that the FBI want pried open, but those of all customers, now and future.

Artistic output for photographs on iOS devices

Life, Graham K. Rogers, Published on 20/01/2016

» Although I prefer working in Aperture, I have softened my views on Photos on the Mac. It is much improved from its first release, but there is still room for improvement. I use it mainly for iPhone photographs synchronised to the Mac via iCloud.

Music and photo adjustment apps on iOS devices

Life, Graham K. Rogers, Published on 27/01/2016

» A few hours ago, on Jan 26 (Wednesday morning here) Apple released its Q1 2016 financial report. Analyst opinion has been split, particularly on iPhone sales speculation: some say down, some say up. With figures from China and India already looking promising, those who always vote for a doomed Apple may be wrong again.

Results, replacements, watermarking and cartoon-style output

Life, Graham K. Rogers, Published on 03/02/2016

» Last week, Apple announced its First Quarter 2016 results. Income was within Apple's guidance, but that did not stop Wall Street from deciding that Apple was doomed, despite the largest quarterly profits from any company ever. If Apple were a country, its GDP would give it a ranking of 42 (Thailand is 29).

    Free iPhone apps aplenty

Life, Graham K. Rogers, Published on 10/02/2016

» Several reports over the weekend had Apple as the bad guys again over the failure of some iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s models. They had had the home button replaced by unauthorised dealers and after an update to iOS there may be a report of an Error 53: the phone fails.

    Error 53, Polarr and more

Life, Graham K. Rogers, Published on 17/02/2016

» Following the Error 53 problem for iPhone users with unauthorised home button replacements, several sites reported a problem for the iPhone if the date is reset to Jan 1, 1970 (depending on timezone), although why anyone would want to do that is beyond me. Do not try this at home.

Seagate Wireless Plus disk (Part II): Not exactly plug and play

Life, Graham K. Rogers, Published on 13/01/2016

» Apple's iOS devices do not allow users to access data on disks using the Lightning connector. Using Wi-Fi to access content stored on a disk is a solution. I have been trying to work with a Seagate Wireless Plus disk. I was encouraged by a number of positive reviews I had read.
