    Biomass plants trump coal-fired power

News, Terry Weir, Published on 06/08/2015

» Though I work as a CFO in the electronics industry in Thailand, I also have investments in various energy stocks and farming. I have looked in detail at the economics of investing in a biomass energy project in Australia. From an investors' perspective, we examine the financial returns for a project, meanwhile countries need to evaluate the whole picture — economic costs and benefits, both now and in the future.

    CDC must do its homework

    News, Editorial, Published on 06/08/2015

» The Constitution Drafting Committee (CDC)'s apparent about-face over its decision to take away the off-budget funding for the Thai Health Promotion Foundation (ThaiHealth), Thai PBS TV station and the National Sports Development Organisation and to subject them to central budgeting and parliamentary oversight, like other state organisations, is indeed a welcome move.

    A culture of mindless excessiveness

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 06/08/2015

» Just a few weeks ago, I discovered Ik Junoon (Paint It Red), an infectiously catchy song that played in the 2011 Bollywood flick Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara. (The other, African-American Missy Copeland, gave credit to Ommi on the nationally-broadcast Charlie Rose Show last month.) She has already danced on three continents in lead performances. The Huffington Post listed her as one of American's "39 most exciting dancers".

    Thai art to wear

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 06/08/2015

» Ever lust over the Vegas showgirls or Hollywood starlets that deck Charlotte Olympia's Around the World collection of T-bar heels? Sure it's cute, but now Thailand has a design of its own too. To pay homage to the newest city the brand has just opened a store in, Charlotte Olympia makes the traditional Kanok pattern as the main star of a violet-coloured T-bar. Although it's less figurative than designs for other countries, it's embroidered in a golden thread and still eye-catching enough for any party.

Life, Pongpet Mekloy, Published on 06/08/2015

» One on the original list of China's "Great Ancient Capitals" — which also includes Beijing, Xi'an and Luoyang — is Nanjing. Translated as "the southern capital", it is the only one of the four located on the south side of the Yangtze, the great river that marks the boundary between the northern and southern parts of the vast country.
