Stories that got blown out of proportion, thanks to social media

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 27/07/2018

» While I appreciate social media for being a multi-faceted tool for keeping up with friends (and frenemies), indulging in endless cat videos, stalking beautiful strangers and showing off what I ate or where I stayed (I'm only human), it's also an amplifier for some stories that probably don't need the attention of the entire country. Not sure what I'm getting at? Here are a few stories that, IMHO, are of little value, but, thanks to social media, we are drawn to care about.

Ramen with cocktails

Guru, Don Assamongkol, Published on 27/07/2018

» For most millenials like myself, Ippudo's known as the go-to ramen choice: accessible, affordable and consistent. However, the global brand, which was originally founded by three-time TV Champion chef Shigemi Kawahara, has taken things up a notch with its new branch at J Avenue where they've incorporated a bar concept with their staple ramen. This Ippudo offers a clean and cool look and seats 40 people.

Get smart

Guru, Eric E Surbano, Published on 27/07/2018

» Remember how blown away we all were when we saw Tony Stark had an AI butler named Jarvis? That's not entirely impossible now. It's called "home automation" and these home automations come together to make a "smart house" -- you know, like a smartphone. That means you can set up every aspect of your home so that it automatically does stuff for you. In other words, it's a lazy person's dream. You can also control it via your phone or hands-free through an AI assistant whether it be Siri, Google or Alexa, as long as it's all connected to the Wi-Fi.

» It has been a few weeks since the rescue of the Wild Boar soccer team from Tham Luang cave. With the successful and miraculous feel-good news of the rescue, it was inevitable that plans to dramatise the entire ordeal will be made into a movie. Reportedly, six film production companies are in talks with the Thai government and have expressed interest in obtaining rights to make a dramatic movie version of the events.

Coffee on-the-go

Guru, Don Assamongkol, Published on 27/07/2018

» While the brand Nescafé brings to mind instant coffee or 3-in-1 sachets, they're upping their game with the introduction of coffee capsules, fancy machines, as well as coffee-for-office packages. The brand recently took it one step further and opened its first out-of-home café in Thailand called "Nescafé HUB," on the skywalk of BTS Chidlom near the entrances to Central Chidlom and MercuryVille.

Club escape

Guru, Eric E Surbano, Published on 27/07/2018

» Taking a vacation is supposed to be a time to relax, unwind and escape reality for a little bit. However, it's the planning prior to the vacation that can cause stress and chaos. Where do you want to go? Where are you going to stay? Do you want to go around and explore the local sights or is this going to be a staycation sort of thing? And then there's the million dollar question: how much is this all going to cost? Will I be able to afford it or is this vacay worth living off saltine crackers for a month?
