Benefits of an effective compliance programme

Business, Tilleke & Gibbins International Ltd, Published on 15/04/2016

» Companies and the people who run them are subject to an increasing array of local and international regulations. Running afoul of these regulations can lead to corporate scandals that hurt a firm's reputation and cause lasting damage. A compliance and ethics programme can help ensure that an organisation operates within the law and stays true to its own ethical principles that are important to the company's business and identity.

    Dining in chemistry

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 15/04/2016

» Not every restaurant creates such an impression on arrival. In the case of the second branch of ABC Essence in Eatery, your eyes may be drawn to work out all the dashing details in its décor. The white installation made of hexagonal patterns at the entrance is the first thing to grab your attention. The two gleaming white bars facing the outside at the front are designed for those who want to grab a cup of joe or a sandwich while people-watching. A few steps further in are hexagonal podiums, displaying cookies and boxes of micro greens, as if they are artefacts. One of the walls is adorned with copper mirrors from floor to ceiling, visually doubling the space. This indoor dining area with marble flooring feels spacious, airy and modern. But why so many hexagons, you ask? Well, they represent the structural formula of chemical compounds and, of course, are the essence of food.

» American Luke Cassady-Dorion is a Bangkok-based yoga teacher, filmmaker and co-founder of Picnicly — a popular website focusing on fun, upbeat and inspiring content by a group of Thai and foreign creators. They made a name for themselves early on by working with five young hosts from five different countries who all speak Thai fluently. Since then they've expanded to include content about fashion, culture & language (expats reciting Bangkok's full name), food hacks (how to make a grilled cheese with an iron), yoga and other things that appeal to Thai Millennials. They publish a mix of written and video content daily on their site at www.picnic.ly. On the occasion of Picnicly's first anniversary, we sat down with Luke to talk about its origin and where it's heading.

The joy of customising every minute detail of your order -- from choice of noodle, soup or no soup, to what veg to skip -- to your absolute liking is the pleasure of visiting a noodle shop.
