Flying high

Guru, Eric E Surbano, Published on 13/12/2019

» Yosuke Chatmaleerat is a number of different things. He's a gymnast, pianist and pilot — three things which require a lot of dedication, practice and skill. He's skilled in all three at just 27 years old and if that doesn't make you question what you've been doing in your life, he's recently just got another achievement under his belt. Well, it's more of a record. He now holds the Guinness World Record for the fastest journey through all 48 mainland states of the US by helicopter.

The odd one out

Guru, Eric E Surbano, Published on 13/12/2019

» As the holiday season draws near and your family probably begins to make plans for a family get-together, you may be reminded of that quirky relative you have that you'll probably meet. You know, that uncle or aunt who's bordering on cool and weird, the one who's vegan and who's your go-to person when asking about how to live a more sustainable lifestyle but who also uses those weird products like those from Gwyneth Paltrow's company. It's the usual challenge of wanting to embrace the new yet keep the familiar things that made it so memorable. Thankfully, Need For Speed: Heat hits the sweet spot of new and classic, reinvigorating the franchise and at the same time bringing gamers familiar with the title back to the good ol' days of NFS.

Still roasting

Guru, Eric E Surbano, Published on 29/11/2019

» For eight years, Roast has been synonymous with mouth-watering, brunch comfort food -- and it still is. So when they said that a menu revamp was in the works, it was a little worrying and a little exciting. Change is always a little uncomfortable and the fear of saying goodbye to favourite dishes is a painful ordeal. Okay, I exaggerate, but still, it hurts. But despite Roast changing up 50% of their menu, I can tell you right now that you can rest easy because they've embraced the new while still keeping the familiar stuff that made them a brunch icon in the city.

Casually Italian

Guru, Eric E Surbano, Published on 15/11/2019

» When people mention Italian dining, there might be a certain image that comes to mind: perhaps it's a little hi-so, maybe even fine dining and something that's saved for a special meal where you dress up all nice. Gigi wants to do the complete opposite.

Thai pride

Guru, Eric E Surbano, Published on 15/11/2019

» Thailand is well-known around the world for a number of things: beautiful beaches, great food and extremely friendly people, to name a few. It's also home to a variety of homegrown talent be it in the entertainment industry or elsewhere. Sure, you can probably name a bunch off the top of your head that people go gaga for right here in the country, but there's also a number of them who are pretty well-known internationally, some of whom you may not be aware of. Either way, these are people who are making their motherland proud and whose works are worthy to be celebrated. From make-up artists to cake designers, here are Thais who are getting recognition locally and internationally for their work.

Hungry for the wolf

Guru, Eric E Surbano, Published on 08/11/2019

» Croissants are a very straightforward and simple pastry -- to eat that is. What you see is what you get. A little bit of butter paired with black coffee makes a pretty good breakfast or snack. But WolfCroissanterie, a little shop at the recently relaunched Lido Connect, takes the croissants we all know up a notch.
