    Smartphone catwalk

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 06/10/2016

» Fashion and technology are meshing to become applications on your smartphone, but most on the market are still painfully rudimentary and extremely laggy. In truth, many are made for the main purpose of making their merchandise available only a click away, but a few we've tried out offer something beyond an online store.

When love and duty conquers pain and heartbreak

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 08/08/2016

» Is it better to come across those big blows earlier in life so you have more time to adjust to them? Or is it better to encounter tragedies when you're older, when you have more experience and a deeper understanding of life? Despite its title, How I Love My Mother by Pariorn Watcharasiri is not a how-to book. The premise that calls for this memoir may be a gloomy one, but not all sob stories need to be tear-jerking.

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 11/08/2016

» Everybody knows about Dorothy Gale and her adventures in Oz, but L. Frank Baum also has a bevy of other characters just as endearing and unique as the little girl who got tornadoed into the magical land away from her home in Kansas. If you've never heard of Tik-Tok before, Thong Lor Art Space offers you the chance to get up real close to what is possibly the world's first robot character portrayed in literature in The Adventures Of Tik-Tok, Man Of Oz this month. The first half will recount the adventures of the Wizard of Oz and Dorothy, before heading towards the land of Ev, where the "mechanical man" who was forgotten in a cave is later found by Dorothy.

    Jackson Pollock-inspired home decorations

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 11/08/2016

» Beyond museum stores, there are also lots of art-inspired home decorations at the mall if you know where to look. The name to keep in mind is Jonathan Adler, for his eccentrically glamorous pieces that usually come in gold -- but are not gaudy. The lifestyle and furniture brand, which hails from New York, offers a handful of Jackson Pollock-inspired items this month, from neat porcelain pieces to pillows for dressing up your couch. If you like the American painter's works, which influenced the abstract expressionist movement, you'll love Adler's more colourful and modern interpretation of Pollock's iconic paint splatters. See how the hand-painted paint splats fare when paired up against the opulence of 24-carat gold -- a quirky but elegant frill for any dining or living room.

    Bollywood comes to town

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 17/08/2016

» Want to try watching an Indian movie but don't quite know where to start? Now's your chance with the Indian Film Festival of Thailand, where you can relive Bollywood's biggest blockbusters for 150 baht per movie, as opposed to the 350 baht that the tickets usually cost on regular release. Perhaps better retitled the Deepika Padukone Film Festival of Thailand (she's in three of the seven films showing), some of the most popular movies from India's Tinseltown within the past three years will be showing at Paragon Cineplex from Aug 22-28. In this event hosted by MVP Entertainment, Zee Entertainment and Paragon Cineplex, the festival's opening will also see flash mob dances and interviews with Thai stuntmen who have worked in Bollywood. Prangthong Jitcharoenkul, author of India Mee Arai Ja Bok, will also be sharing her experiences while studying in India.

Forget historical accuracy, this is all about Hrithik's abs

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 19/08/2016

» This obviously isn't going to win any Academy Award nominations. Director Ashutosh Gowariker may have been lauded for his taxing period drama Lagaan, which earned a nomination for the Oscar's Best Foreign Language Film in 2002, but his latest film, Mohenjo Daro, is a clichéd period epic that offers a confused peek into the past of a place that is now a Unesco World Heritage site. I mean, if you want "exotic" costumes, epic sets and a hero-unknowingly-related-to-this-city plot, this is just the thing.
