Taxi tales

Guru, Eric E Surbano, Published on 23/02/2018

» Ah, taxis. Can't live with them, can't live without them. Unless you live along the skytrain or subway station or you have the capacity and willpower to survive riding a bus, then taxis are the vein of your existence in terms of transportation. Sure, there are alternatives now like Grab and Uber (legality undetermined but hey, this is Bangkok), but for the longest time before those apps came to save us, we depended on good ol' taxis. Knowing that, we thought that each of us probably had a few interesting taxi rides and we decided to ask you to send us some of yours. You didn't disappoint. Here are some of our favourite Taxi Tales sent in by you.

As we are not called GURU for nothing, we have created a handful of checklists for the uninformed to get you prepared to navigate the Big Mango.

The installations will run until Aug 31.

Smart up

Guru, Pasavat Tanskul, Published on 27/04/2018

» Here at GURU, we love our smartphones. As we live in an age where one wonders what would we do without our handheld devices, people in the technology world are constantly developing apps to make our lives easier -- with our phones. We've saved you the hassle and created a list of free-to-download apps that are useful in the Big Mango -- kind of like a Swiss Army knife for the techie (okay, so maybe your phone can't cut things).

Sacred Figures Thai Mediums Should Channel Next

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 08/06/2018

» Unless you've been living under a rock (or just back from a meditation retreat), you can't really avoid news or posts regarding khon song jao (mediums) on your news feed. These people claim to be able to channel Hindu deities, past Thai kings (uh-oh, 112), characters from classic Thai literature and Doraemon.

Flowers, lattes and toast

Guru, Pasavat Tanskul, Published on 22/06/2018

» Floral cafes seems to be on the rise (look no further than our cover story on floral cafes a few issues ago) and Too Good For You seems to be the next flowery destination for cafe hoppers. Of course, cafes such as these are not without its gimmicks and Too Good For You is, quite frankly, too good for us to be situated in a location where anybody can find it. Yes, this cafe is hidden deep within an old office building, namely the Mukda building in Sathon.
