Asus ZenBook 3 review: Can it take the heat?

Business, Kanin Srimaneekulroj, Published on 15/10/2016

» Looking at the Asus ZenBook 3's specs on paper, there really isn't anything not to love about this ultrabook. Running Windows 10 on an Intel Core i7 processor (or i5, for cheaper versions) with support for up to a whopping 16GB of RAM (4GB for lesser models), 500GB of native storage and a full-HD (1920x1080) resolution LED screen wrapped in a body comparable to a MacBook Air, the ZenBook 3 seems poised to blow it's Mac OS counterparts out of the proverbial water in terms of power, while matching them for portability. Alas, poor heat management and battery life holds back the machine from showing its full power, making it, at best, equal to the MacBook Air in some areas, and borderline broken in others.

Moto Z: First successful modular smartphone?

Business, Kanin Srimaneekulroj, Published on 19/11/2016

» When Motorola first announced that its Moto Z family of smartphones would be modular, many critics were sceptical. With LG's G5 and Google's Project Ara modular smartphones seemingly crashing and burning (even before release, in Google's case), things did not bode well for Motorola's new flagship device. At first glance, there doesn't seem to be anything noteworthy about it aside from its modular nature, which some have written off as a gimmick.

» With a thickness and weight comparable to that of larger iPad models, the Spectre is without a doubt one of the thinnest and lightest laptops available on the market today. While laptops of this size and weight inevitably end up sacrificing power for portability, the HP Spectre brings us the best of both worlds, packing an Intel-Core i7 (or i5) processor along with up to 8GB of RAM in its slender, solidly built body, making it one of the most balanced laptops in terms of power, portability and design.

    » Sporting a top-tier GeForce GTX 1070 graphics card, 16GB RAM, 2TB of storage and a new-generation Intel Core-i7 processor, the Omen 17 -- HP's 17-inch flagship gaming laptop -- is a force to be reckoned with.

    K6 Note fails to dazzle

Business, Kanin Srimaneekulroj, Published on 11/02/2017

» While enjoying moderate success in the laptop computer market, Lenovo has never been the most competitive brand when it comes to smartphones, generally offering devices in the low-to-mid-tier range. The K6 Note, the latest release in the brand's K6 series, which includes the ordinary K6 and the K6 Power, doesn't seem to buck the trend, coming with a mid-range Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 and a measly maximum of 4GB of RAM, which makes the phone noticeably suffer when used for extended periods of time. The same can be said for the phone's ability to run relatively taxing apps or multitasking. This lack of power and a subpar 16MP camera makes the phone a tough sell, even at its affordable price of 8,990 baht.
