» There is this ongoing "watchgate", which started in December when Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwon, aka Uncle Pom, held up his hand to shield his face from sunlight during a photo shoot with his fellow ministers at Government House. What caught people's eyes was a Richard Mille watch on his wrist and a giant diamond on his ring finger.

» Earlier this week, the National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA) Poll Director Dr Arnond Sakworawich, who had been in his job for only two weeks, resigned after his rector asked him not to publish the results of a nationwide survey that his team did on Deputy PM Prawit Wongsuwon's ongoing watchgate. Bangkok Post reported that NIDA president deemed the poll unfair and untimely. Arnond cited lack of respect and academic freedom as his main reasons to quit. Kudos to him for doing this as he is actually pro-regime.

» As the editor (and the Thai-Chinese token of this magazine), I would like to celebrate Chinese New Year with a fun test to gauge how Thai-Chinese you are. I mean, according to Theraphan Luangthomkun's Language, Nation And Development In Southeast Asia, it was estimated that there are about 26 million Thais of full or partial Chinese descent. So, Happy Chinese New Year to about 40% of the Thai population, I guess.

» English isn't Thailand's official language and that may explain incidents of unintentionally funny product names or slogans in English of Thai products. Some may be the case of not knowing the dirty nuances of English language, while some may argue that the marketing team was being cheeky and clever so that people will talk about their products' curious names. I decided to compile funny product names in recent times for your not-so-SFW entertainment. I didn't get paid by the owners of these products, btw. » In the wake of the scandal where Italian-Thai Development president and three men were caught allegedly poaching protected animals in a wildlife sanctuary, an outpour of artwork has been created to pressure the concerning authority to mete out due justice. This is understandable as many have little faith in Thai justice system given its track record of double standards.
