Life, Kong Rithdee, Published on 28/10/2016

The three short films in the omnibus Asian Three-Fold Mirror: Reflections narrate the criss-crossing of destiny between Asian people -- or particularly in this case between Japanese and Southeast Asians. The Reflections project has been commissioned by the Japan Foundation and Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF) as a means to show the mutual relationships, present or forgotten, among the Asian countries.

» On the streets and outside of formal contexts, the dress code is more fluid and there's more leeway to work out your look of the day. Granted, you should still be appropriately attired during this mourning period, but since we're going to be in black for some time, why not be so in a refined manner?

Doctor Strange is a whole new trip

Life, Kanin Srimaneekulroj, Published on 28/10/2016

» To put it in very simple terms, Doctor Strange -- the latest Marvel Studios film to join their cinematic pantheon -- is a tangle of contradictions. Fresh yet familiar, inventive yet conventional, Dr. Strange succeeds in turning the visual spectacle joyride quality Marvel's films have always been known for to 11, bombarding us with a relentless stream of brilliant, trippy, kaleidoscopic visuals that feel genuinely exciting to behold -- especially in IMAX 3D -- while sticking rather close to the tried-and-true Marvel formula for superhero origin-story films, complete with the same underserved villain and token love interest that have been a problem with many of their past films.

» The setting: Yep, you read that right. Someone did something quite mind-blowing by bringing together the sushi conveyor belt and pizza. It's perhaps a world's first too. Pizza King, which shares the same address with Limoncello in Thong Lor Soi 9, serves up pizza toppings on the conveyor belt to let you choose what you want to have on your very own Italian-style pizza. Whether you want to describe this unique restaurant as "kaiten-pizza", "rotation pizza" or a "pizza-go-round", the good news is that the main ingredient isn't a pure gimmick.
