» Thailand's gastronomic scene of 2015 wasn't much different from 2014. Restaurants opened by Michelin-starred chefs continue to attract diners, as do all-day breakfast establishments and Japanese eateries. Food trucks, meanwhile, still enjoy their non-stop popularity but have moved territory from street-side spaces into purposely-set food festivals and food halls. However, there have been a few outstanding food crazes over the past 12 months that are worth mentioning.

» Particular elements have made Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok an exceptional establishment for decades. Among them are its prime location by the River of Kings, the historic colonial-style manor of the Authors' Wing, five-star service quality, and last but not least, a culinary dexterity, which, since 1974, has been overseen by executive chef Norbert Kostner.

» Two Angels Tacos food truck brings LA-style tacos to Bangkok (hence the name). LA-born Pattanapong Sukduang partnered with Le Cordon Bleu grad Chris Ostray to open this food truck approximately six months ago. A blackboard menu written in chalk is placed over the bar in front of the cooking station. Several backless stools are available, but this is no place to linger.

    On a high note

» What’s better than one good restaurant? Three good ones combined, baby! Highball Black Garden is a joint concoction between Johnnie Walker and three well-known restaurants — Hyde & Seek Peek-a-Boo, 1881 by Water Library and Tales of Gold Mine — all of which are located inside Groove, a dining hub on the ground level of CentralWorld. As its name suggests, it focuses on pairing food with highballs containing Johnnie Walker Black Label whisky. This pop-up venue is where you can enjoy an alfresco dinner lit up by strings of decorative Christmas lights wrapped around trees. The director’s chairs are more comfortable and roomy than they look (unless you’re booty-blessed like Kim or Nicki). There are some props with which to spruce up your IG moments, such as a top hat to help you look like a gent and a statue of the Johnnie Walker himself. A large, black backdrop is also available for group photos.
