    » After a spectacular opening ceremony paying homage to the "Isles of Wonder" with music ranging from Chariots of Fire to songs written by the Beatles and rounded off by populist skits and a parade of athletes from competing nations, the Games of the 30th Olympiad have come alive. Competition has now begun in earnest between the 14,000 participants from 205 nations who are seeking medals in the 300 events that make up the London 2012 Summer Olympics. Yes, it is bigger than Beijing but Thai hopes are high and deservedly so.
