» It is unbelievable that fully legal migrants in Thailand are currently less protected in terms of access to health care than they were in the past. The cancelling of the Public Health Ministry's Compulsory Migrant Health Insurance Scheme (CMHI) on June 14 and the recent cabinet resolution that migrants must now participate instead in the formal Social Security Scheme will have adverse consequences for these workers who are already vulnerable in terms of access to health care and have increased health risks. Of the more than 700,000 migrants who have already passed the nationality verification process, most are currently without any health cover at all.
