Looking through the P10 Plus

Life, Kanin Srimaneekulroj, Published on 05/07/2017

» With its pair of Leica-developed cameras, speedy 6GB of Ram and beautiful QHD (2560x1440) screen, the Huawei P10 Plus is very possibly the best phone to be released by the Chinese brand so far, providing high-end quality features at a competitive price, with very minor caveats.

Taking on the big boys

Life, Kanin Srimaneekulroj, Published on 14/06/2017

» In recent years, Chinese smartphone brands like Huawei and Oppo have enjoyed a great surge in popularity and positive consumer impressions, blending decent performance with relatively attractive prices. They can't exactly put up a realistic fight against the biggest boys on the block just yet, but they're getting there fast.

You pays your money

» As monolithic a consumer-electronics brand as they are, Sony has always been content to compete in the mid-range smartphone market instead of going up against the big boys like Apple or Samsung. Mid-range android phones are a-dime-a-dozen these days, however, and the Sony Xperia XA1, the brand's latest mid-tier addition to their Xperia line (after the XA1 Ultra) has its work cut out for it if it wants to stand out.

For those perfect Netflix and chill moments

» Sporting a rather hefty combination of an Intel-Core i7 processor and 8GB of RAM (upgradeable to 16GB), the Lenovo Yoga 910 is no doubt one of the more powerful ultra-thin hybrid laptops currently on the market. It also sports a pretty decent battery, offering almost 10 hours of use per full-charge, something that greatly enhances its purpose as a portable (1.3kg) working laptop.

Original intent drives Jabra's new fitness earbud

Life, Kanin Srimaneekulroj, Published on 12/04/2017

» Entirely sweat and waterproof, the Elite Sport is, as its name suggests, a great choice of headphones for working out. Providing decent sound quality with a snug, customisable rubber frame that commendably keeps the earphones where they should be, while keeping ambient noises out, the device is also greatly versatile, able to act as a decent hands-free headset for calls as well as a fitness tracker with HRM (heart rate monitor) capabilities. What the device can't do, however, is act as an on-the-go headphone for your daily needs, with a measly three-hours of battery life per charge. The provided charging case that comes with the headphones does provide a further two charges to your use -- for another six hours of use -- though it probably won't be practical.

» Google Chromecast -- the tech-titan's digital streaming box -- has been around since 2015. But while the device has existed in the wild for quite some time, it has never supported any of the apps available in Thailand, making it largely useless for Thai consumers.

K6 Note fails to dazzle

Business, Kanin Srimaneekulroj, Published on 11/02/2017

» While enjoying moderate success in the laptop computer market, Lenovo has never been the most competitive brand when it comes to smartphones, generally offering devices in the low-to-mid-tier range. The K6 Note, the latest release in the brand's K6 series, which includes the ordinary K6 and the K6 Power, doesn't seem to buck the trend, coming with a mid-range Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 and a measly maximum of 4GB of RAM, which makes the phone noticeably suffer when used for extended periods of time. The same can be said for the phone's ability to run relatively taxing apps or multitasking. This lack of power and a subpar 16MP camera makes the phone a tough sell, even at its affordable price of 8,990 baht.

Dawn of a gaming dream

Life, Kanin Srimaneekulroj, Published on 01/03/2017

» Much as it is with movies, it's increasingly rare these days for a wholly original video game -- one that's not a sequel, prequel, spin-off or remake/remastering of an existing game -- to find recognition in a market overflowing with familiar, tried-and-true rehashes of popular products. Horizon Zero Dawn, the latest Action-RPG from PlayStation-exclusive developer Guerrilla Games, is one such rarity, a wholly original game that deserves the highest praise for its gorgeous, meticulously-realised world and ambitious story, dealing with such themes as creation and artificial intelligence, even if much of its gameplay is admittedly derivative of many open-world games before it.
