Dress for summer

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 19/05/2016

» 'It's always going to be summer somewhere in the world," Juliana Affonso Ferreira says optimistically. What the blonde half of the Brazilian fashion brand Isolda means is that there will always be a place and time for those who want to be dressed in her brand's tropic-appropriate, flowery numbers. Along with childhood friend and co-founder Maya Pop, both of whom were in ravishing dresses with exotic flowers, Ferreira was in Bangkok for the first time last week to visit the Isolda corner at the Beige multi-label store in Siam Paragon.

Refreshingly new

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 02/06/2016

» Iconic it-bags are something of a marketing ploy and if they do well, they usually get tampered with and morph into all sorts of variations in order to reach out to different tastes. Rework the colour, size and texture and the old can easily become new. To change its structure and shape though, is a little more dicey (and could end in tears), but this season, some accessories houses have headed that way and with pleasing results.

That's her bag, baby

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 02/06/2016

» Listen up, Longchamp lovers: bother not with doing your bag shopping abroad anymore -- their flagship just opened its shiny doors in EmQuartier last month. Fans of fashion are probably already aware, but for others, British style maven and the face of the brand Alexa Chung was also in town for the celebration. (Try spotting her again this New Year, as she hopes to return for some partying.)

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 09/06/2016

» Mark your calendars because the season where parlours give ice cream out for free is here! No need to scream for ice cream, but be prepared to run for it tomorrow for a free scoop. American chain Cold Stone, famous for their ice cream mix-in, will be celebrating their "Free Ice Cream Day" tomorrow, from 1pm onwards. Customers can choose between a scoop of Chocolate Devotion or Strawberry Blonde at every branch across the country, with the exception of Suvarnabhumi airport. Hop to it though, because they're only giving out 355 cones per branch! The brand has arrived on our hot shores for six years and to celebrate that, there's also a 20% discount on all ice cream until the end of July.

Meanwhile, Another Story..

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 09/06/2016

» Meanwhile on the Sukhumvit end, EmQuartier's lifestyle concept store Another Story just celebrated their first anniversary last week. To mark this celebration, both international and Thai brands within the store have exclusively created new products that present their vision of Bangkok. Make sure to check out The Bangkokian prints, where eight renowned illustrators from Thailand give us their take on the City of Angels. There are only 14 pieces per design so hop to it if you want a cartoon hill tribe girl to deck your wall. If you don't want to splurge, there are a range of cute cards featuring the city's idiosyncrasies from Phromphong Japanese mums to Thai flowers.

Futuristic retail wonderland

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 09/06/2016

» Our country's parks, museums and libraries are in a sorry state, but at least we get our malls right. Imagine if our malls were complete rubbish as well! At least the ones made by Siam Piwat aren't and their latest unveiling of Siam Discovery, 4 billion baht of renovations later, is a spectacular splash of cubic and futuristic interiors, with a wide, modern space that is quite unlike what other places offer. Literally a retail wonderland with a brightly-lit ambience that no longer skimps on the wattage, the dazzling, digital vibes this mall gives off now cements itself as a marvel to be gaped at by even the most sophisticated shoppers from around the world. It's only the fact that there isn't a toilet on every single floor that's keeping us from giving this new revamp full points.

It's a Triumph!

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 21/04/2016

» This spring/summer, swimwear staple Triumph offers three collections of flowers that suit all different types of whimsies. There are feminine and lush florals painted with a watercolour touch which look just as attractive on bikinis or over-sized scarves which can be used as body-wraps. It's generic and a safe bet for all women, but if you require more detail and depth, the Fiesta collection boasts pieces that employ traditional-looking embroidery of hot-hued flowers that line the neckline of all suits and flowy tops.

» Join the fashionably-conscious and artistically-aware crowd even if you missed the recent Art Basel Hong Kong. To celebrate 40 years of MCM (Modern Creation München), the German luxury accessories house has got German contemporary artist Tobias Rehberger to design a special collection that captures the brand's bold and dynamic characteristic.

Take pleasure in your leather

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 31/03/2016

» This haven of Thai fancy leather bags and accessories sources leather from the same places brands under the LVMH banner do. Flaunting their variety of exotic skins rather than their brand name, Mettique offers a range of products made from ostrich, wild alligator, crocodile, wild shark, python, lizard, stingray, cow, lamb or buffalo skin. Check out their star piece: a tote bag made without a single stitch to hold everything together. This is a trademark signature by Mettique also found on other items such as pen cases or envelope clutches -- all achieved by their secret bonding technique. With their leather-only policy (even their lining is made of leather), it's a surprisingly light carry that won't hamper the shoulders.

Petals to metals

» Florals? For spring? Groundbreaking. And we really do mean it, unlike when Miranda Priestly said those very words rather snidely in The Devil Wears Prada.
