This virtual march of solidarity marks both the urgency of finding a shared voice and the hidden scale of assault that did not previously have a register. When women are almost invisible, when they are not really seen, it seems that people do not have to care what happens to them.

The millions of people joining the hashtag tide showed us how little they were heard before. They poured through the floodgates, opening up conversations, naming names and bolstering the frailty of individual statements with the robustness of a movement.

» We have recently celebrated the peace deal struck between the government in Colombia and the main rebel group. The deal represents the clearest sign yet of a possible end to five decades of conflict. Less is said about the multiple constructive ways in which Colombian women have participated in these negotiations or mobilised for peace, including the many meetings held by women survivors with the women in both negotiating teams.
