Let's get freaky

Guru, Eric E Surbano, Published on 17/02/2017

» The setting: A little way inside Sukhumvit Soi 39 lies this Aussie-born restaurant that opened its doors one month ago to the Bangkok public. Already having restaurants in Malaysia and Singapore, Pâtissez's location here in Bangkok gives off a very chill vibe the minute you walk in. With its homey décor and atmosphere, you can't help but settle in and just relax. You're greeted at the door with the words "#FreakShakes" which we suspect is a subliminal message to remind you later of what to order. The sign above the counter of the kitchen tempts -- nay, dares -- the restaurant's customers to do one thing: "Get your freak on". But really, we can't help but do just that when you see the spread that the restaurant has to offer.

Let's get high

Guru, Eric E Surbano, Published on 03/03/2017

» Many restaurants aspire to give their patrons an elevated dining experience, and in some cases, this has been taken literally. Bangkok is home to a vast array of rooftop restaurants and bars, some of which are well-known, go-to places for a dinner with a magnificent view of the city's skyline. This week, we have rounded up a number of relatively new rooftop restos for you to check out and enjoy. Protip: don't look down. Seriously.

The TT Diaries

Guru, Eric E Surbano, Published on 10/02/2017

» Travelling over 3,000km in a car isn't that impressive. Travelling over 3,000km in an auto rickshaw, however, is something else entirely. This was exactly what the TT Ladies did. The three young women from Thailand — Bom Plengpanich, Aei Jinapuck and Helen Stettler — travelled to India to take part in The Rickshaw Run to raise awareness for domestic abuse in Thailand. The entire journey was filmed by the ladies themselves. The first two episodes are already online, with six more to be released. Guru was able to sit down with one of its members, Thai-Swiss Helen Stettler, to find out more about the experience.

Bangkokian Phones

Guru, Eric E Surbano, Published on 03/02/2017

» We're all familiar with the saying "Don't judge a book by its cover", i.e. don't judge people by their appearances. Well, we totally agree. It's 2017, so judge them by their phones instead!
