On the positive side, the number of people recovered now exceeds the number of active cases. The US remains the most affected country, with more than 2 million cases and nearly 114,000 deaths.

» The SET index swung widely in July, ranging between 1,303.25 and 1,391.77 points and closing the month at 1,328.53. The value has not risen above 1,340 since then. This level is now acting as a key technical boundary, and trade remains sluggish.

New cases in the United States have fallen to around 35,000 per day from 100,000 previously. The leader in daily cases is now India at more than 90,000 per day. Overall, market participants appear less concerned about the pandemic and are now training their focus on the economy.

» November was a particularly interesting month in an already interesting year for the local equity market. To recap, in the wake of the initial Covid-19 outbreak, the SET weakened to below 1,000 points in March before bouncing back to its peak at 1,455 in June. The index declined steadily to between 1,200 and 1,300 in the months thereafter, closing out October at 1,194.95.
